About the adventure

A letter from a mysterious benefactor calls you to the Paradise Mountain range, the small town of Arborean Springs has put out a call for assistance with wildfires that are decimating their valley. However there may be more than meets the eye. Several factions want the problem dealt with in a few different ways. Which will you side with, or will you go your own way? Uncover the mysterious past of the vale! This is an already established group, seeking one or two more players after scheduling has opened some spots. The current group has just finished Vecna: Eve of Ruin, and is doing some Dragon Delves games to fill time until the Deadfall adventure is released. The group is lively and fun, we don't take things too seriously. All are welcome, all we ask is to respect each other, and respect each other's time. We are all here to have fun and play the game. All skill levels are welcome, but be advised this is a level 9 game so there may be a learning curve for new players. Though I'm always happy to teach new players!

About me

Hello! The name's Jon, but you can call me Choco or Grimm. I've been playing Dnd 5e for about five years, and GMing for a little over 2 years. My passion is entertaining people and making them laugh and telling amazing stories. I'm very much a nerd and will make all kinds of dumb references to movies, anime, and video games. I like to experiment with various mechanics to spice up the game. I'm also trying to learn Pathfinder 2e, but it's a slow process. I'm very welcoming, open, and accepting. I do my best to make everyone comfortable and respect boundaries to the best of my ability. I pride myself on making lovable npcs and providing an intricate world. I generally run things on Roll20 VTT and use Discord for voice chat, and I do my best to provide ambient music and sounds for the most immersive experience. I have a homebrew campaign I'd be happy to run, as well as multiple oneshots. I also love teaching new players. All I ask is that you have an open mind, respect everyone's time, and come ready to laugh.

Character creation

Creating your character

Starting at level 9, all official material is allowed. UA, Homebrew, and Partnered content on approval basis. Tal'dorei campaign reborn, Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realm, and Why Slay Dragons When You Could be Fishing are approved. Starting equipment plus 725gp, 1 common 1 uncommon item, DMG only If using a 2014 background, replace the feature with an Origin Feat 2014 versions of classes are allowed, but spells and magic items will be 2024 versions For HP you can roll or take average, reroll 1's. Custom background is fine Each player rolled a stat array and voted on which one to use, the starting array will be 18 15 14 13 13 11 Mixed Heritage rules- If you want to be a character who is half another species, you choose your main species to play, and can replace one feature for a feature from the second species. (ie, if you want to be half dragonborn half tiefling, you could play a dragonborn, but replace the Breath Weapon ability for the Infernal Legacy to get their spells instead of the breath weapon.)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Will need a Discord and Roll20 account. Links to the game server and Roll20 game will be sent on approval.

What Jon brings to the table

I provide the Roll20 maps, I utilize ambient music and try to do character voices. I mostly stick to rules as written, but can be very lenient for story reasons. My discord is also a growing community of all my players to make friends and talk with. I try to be a fun, silly GM who wants to make his players laugh, cry, and just feel.

Homebrew rules

Insipiration- On a nat20, you can choose to give one creature that can see you a Heroic Inspiration. Savagery- Whenever a player, or allied creature rolls a nat1, the Dm gains a savagery, up to a maximum of 12. The DM can spend savagery to reroll any die a DM controlled creature has rolled. Additionally they can spend it to trigger certain effects in the environment or for monster abilities. The DM starts with a Savagery for each player. They also gain 1d4 Savagery if players Short Rest in a dangerous location, and 1d4+ # of players Savagery for taking a Long Rest in a dangerous location. Help Action: Instead of advantage, if you are proficient in the same skill, you add a +5 to the roll. If you are not proficient, you give a +2. Death Move: When a player character fails their last Death Saving Throw, they can choose from one of three options: Last Hurrah- You take one final action before you perish, all allies gain Heroic Inspiration. Retreat- You flee from the battle, however you will take an injury as you flee. You will be stable and unconscious. Roll 1d6 to determine a Stat Score that will be reduced by 1 permanently. All or Nothing- Roll one final death save, no bonuses apply. On a 10 or higher you come back to 1 hit point and a level of exhaustion. On a 9 or lower, you die. Resurrection: Whenever a creature is resurrected, their Constitution is reduced by 1 permanently. When attempting a resurrection, there is a DC that must be passed. The roll depends on the means of revival. The DC is 10 plus the number of times the creature has died. Revivify- The caster of the spell must roll a Spell Attack Roll, if the DC is met, the creature is revived. If failed, the spell fails and the slot and resources are wasted. Raise Dead, Resurrection, and True Resurrection- During the casting of the spell, up to three creatures can perform an ability check of their choice to attempt to coax the soul back to life. A success lowers the DC, a failure raises the DC. After the checks are made, the Dm rolls a flat d20 to determine the result. Reincarnate- There is no check to be made, but there will be a penalty depending on your new form's transition to its new shape. For example, a point in dexterity may be lost if the arrangement of limbs is different, or a proficiency may be lost if a sense is dulled, etc.

Safety

How Jon creates a safe table

During the first session, or session 0, we will go over the expectations and respect, and you will have a private whisper server to tell me any hard limitations. I shy away from most darker subject material if at all possible. I also check in with players and have an open door policy if anything is bothering them. My biggest rule is respect, if someone says something needs to stop, it stops. Full stop.
