About the adventure
Inspired by the worlds of the classic console Final Fantasy games, you and a group of fellow warriors of light will venture across the land and explore every corner of the planet to save the world from the draconic apocalypse that threatens it! Travel a world full of majesty and beauty, filled to the brim with magic and technology more powerful than you can imagine. This campaign uses the fanmade D&D × Final Fantasy XIV sourcebook, Asgard's Guide to Eitherys, by SilentSoren. It can be found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXIVxDnD/comments/1jyq7c1/gmbinder_interruption_where_to_find_the_book/

Meet the Game Master
About me
An author, poet, and anthropologist, I love to introduce new players to the fantastical worlds I grew up in and love even more building new worlds with players of all experience levels (including no experience!) DMing is a passion of mine, something I am always striving to improve at: the physical world around me is littered with sourcebooks, notebooks, guides, print-outs, Post-Its, dice, half-painted miniatures, and other paraphernalia related to this incredible hobby. All of my games are LGBTQ+ friendly, and my tables are safe spaces where everyone is welcome, so long as they believe that everyone is welcome.

Creating your character
Characters will be made together during session zero on the Role VTT website. Stat method will be determined by players during session zero: either roll for stats or point buy. At the beginning of the campaign, only the D&D × Final Fantasy XIV sourcebook, Asgard's Guide to Eitherys, and the following books can be used: - Player's Handbook - Tasha's Cauldron of Everything (including customized origins, all optional rules, and the Artificer class) - Fizban's Treasury of Dragons (character options only) Players who join after session 0 will get a character building walkthrough/session 0 with me and any other new players, scheduling permitting.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need a free Discord account (https://www.discord.com) for communication (voice chat, text messages, etc). A free Role VTT account will also be required (https://www.playrole.com/).
What Gerald brings to the table
I will have the rules needed for the game available to players, as well as any other materials we'll need. I bring years of experience (and the experience of having run over 750 games on StartPlaying alone!) to the table, many of which were spent at in-person and online conventions, teaching new players! I also bring just... terrible character voices. Just the worst. 😃 Additionally, I bring with me a gaming community full of great weirdos. My Discord channel is full of fun people who love gaming in all its forms and fun conversations take place daily.
Homebrew rules
The fanmade D&D × Final Fantasy XIV material, Asgard's Guide to Eitherys, will be the core source for this campaign for species, classes, and magic spells. Traditional D&D classes, species, etc. from the 2014/5e Core and Expanded rules are also allowed. Other Final Fantasy-derived elements, such as limit breaks, mounts, summons, and more, may also become part of our campaign after I've either found some solid homebrew rules or I've had an opportunity to make it myself. I prefer the way that some effects work in 2024/5.5e, so I will present these as variant rules that the table can vote on during session 0. These include, but are not limited to, exhaustion, crafting, Bastions, weapon mastery, and some spell rewrites (summoning spells in particular).

How Gerald creates a safe table
This game contains fantasy violence. Character death is on the table, as the setting can be absolutely brutal. Content warnings are non-comprehensive, due to the nature of a bunch of people coming together to hang out together while playing a game. If something comes up that makes you uncomfortable, there are many ways you can make that known, including X-Cards and Lines & Veils. You will never be expected or pressed to share your trauma history with anyone else at the table; simply saying "X this" is enough to change direction of the session.
