About the adventure

The night is new and the blood is fresh. Power has collapsed in the city of New Orleans, and chaos ensues. The kind of chaos that makes it just a little easier to navigate as a kindred. There is so much that makes New Orleans an enticing city for Kindred. Every year, millions of transients come for Mardi Gras and Carnival and millions more visit year round. That's food. Abandoned homes are everywhere. That's housing. The government is corrupt and infrastructure is lacking. That's safety. What else could an audacious neonate with bucketloads of ambition ask for? Peaceful nights and full bellies await those with the claws to rip it away from anyone stupid enough to challenge them. You are a neonate that has chosen to come to New Orleans to navigate the heaping garbage mound that calls itself local Kindred society and be the catalyst for change, the wild card that determines which faction will own the night. The Anarchs seek to keep New Orleans a free state and hold primarily to reducing human intervention via force. They do not want any governing body of the Kindred of the city and want only to indulge the beast. The Hecata want to rule and suppress the humans with espionage and charm. They promise comfort and longevity to any that offer their aid in the Hecata's endeavors. The Thin-Blood Cartel is in it for the money and the drugs. Humans can be bought in many ways and they all keep the cattle off their backs. For the Cartel, a fine line between order and chaos is ideal for keeping the money moving and the blood flowing. And there's always the alternative. Maybe working for someone else isn't your jam, maybe you want to own the night with your coterie, or your lover, or just by yourself. --- This is a highly customized version of New Orleans built from my experiences living nearby and visiting frequently and a mix of old and new vampire settings. I'm moving straight into V5 from Revised, so Modern Nights will blend a little will older ones. Whether you are a V5 veteran, a player returning from an older edition, or someone entirely new to Vampire: The Masquerade, I want you to join me to explore modern nights together.

About me

Hello, I'm Jesse. I've been playing and Gamemastering for 20+ years. I started with D&D 3.0 and have grown with both the Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder environments. I love to explore other systems, as well, and have played more than my fair share of the White Wolf systems (especially, Vampire), The Mistborn Adventure Game and now the Cosmere RPG, Call of Cthulu, and the unofficial Pokemon TTRPGs (Pokemon: Tabletop United and Pokemon: Tabletop Adventures). I've stuck my nose in many others systems such as various GURPS and PbtA systems, Blades in the Dark, and many more large and small games. I haven't picked up a systems that I've been truly unfamiliar with in over a decade. My experience is a spectacular mix of in-person plays with local friends and congoers as well as remote plays via VTTs such as Roll20 and Foundry and Play-by-Post campaigns with online friends and strangers alike. I'm familiar with tools of all varieties and flexible enough to pick up all the new ones as they ship out. I'm always trying to find the right combination for me and my table. I want to add that professionally, my background is in both education and counseling and that you can be comfortable in knowing that I am a well-organized person with both the patience and skills to deescalate and find common ground. Finally, I just want to say that I'm incredibly passionate about TTRPGs and look forward to running some games, and telling some amazing stories with this community.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created via the process laid out in the character creation chapter of the V5 Rulebook. We'll work together to build characters that fit into the coterie and the world at large. Little to no pre-existing vampire knowledge will be necessary to get started and you will learn a lot that you may not know as we go.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll only need a discord account to play. As many conflicts as possible will be resolved via Theater of the Mind.

What Jesse brings to the table

The GM will provide the groundwork for the narrative and consistent and quality posts through out the week. I'm always available to hit up on discord and will arbitrate disputes while enforcing safety measures and rules.

How Jesse creates a safe table

This will be an 18+ game, but lines and veils will still be strictly enforced. Session zero will outline much of these, but they may also develop during the game and if they evolve, so will enforcement. Additionally, X cards may be heavily used. Both anonymously and publicly, when desired. An aftercare channel will be up from session zero. The setting is going to be very edgy and angsty and may require constant communication between players and the GM to keep everyone comfortable.
