About the adventure

Shadowy spiders, gloomy tree monsters and wretched goblinoids guard the path to the old mountain home of an exiled dwarven prince. Are you brave and skilled enough to restore the throne to the rightful heir, even if it means facing down a blazing Red Dragon!? Welcome to 'Back There Again!?' a custom D&D 5e game inspired by the wonderful adventures of JRR Tolkien's 'The Hobbit.' However, while the setting may appear familiar at first, I'm afraid the beautiful world of Inbetween Earth has become infested with unnatural aberrations from across the multiverse! Join me in this magical romp through the Dang Old Forest, over the Murky Mountains and to the Solitary Summit as we conquer the unpredictable realm of Inbetween Earth! Who knows, perhaps if we are lucky more than one world can be saved in the process! This campaign has been play tested by 5 different groups (kids and adults!) and now it's time to bring it to the big league here on SPG! Looking forward to meeting you soon!

About me

I love adventure and exploration and to help you and your group have a blast playing TTRPG's together! My motto while running (and playing) games boils down to: "why would I want to [play] anything other than a beautiful game?" I'm not here to "win," dominate, or rules lawyer anyone to death. Let's have a blast making unforgettable stories, building great characters, throw them into chaos, and save your new friends lives. My goal is for each of us to have an enjoyable experience, whether you are a veteran or beginner with a variety of opportunities, challenges, puzzles and monsters to smash. We are going to keep things pretty low key here, physical or digital dice, mostly theatre of the mind, though some big battles or challenges may have maps or scenes. I want us all together and focused in on what is happening with our story and characters right now. As the wise Jedi Master Yoda encouraged young Luke Skywalker I strive to have us all keep our minds on where we are and what we are doing! If you are looking for a GM to host a game for Teens or Younger I have three years experience teaching kids virtually through platforms called Outschool and YSA and have run many DnD Adventures on those platforms! I'd be happy to host games, parties, or one-shots for your group of young adventurers as well!

Character creation

Creating your character

Starting at Level 1. Bring ideas to Session 0, but be open to adaptations once you learn about your fellow companions and get a better sense of the setting and story. I think the game is more enjoyable when we create characters that fit in the world together! You may create your own, or choose from a pregen character if you prefer.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A Mic is Essential. Webcam is super highly encouraged! It is sooo much easier to connect with players, bond, and interact when we can see each other. A DnD Beyond login is helpful if you would like access to the content I can share on it, but you don't necessarily need it if you have another character generation method you prefer. I do love real dice and having you actually roll them, however there are many online dice tools you may use.

What Sean brings to the table

Apart from the story and the 5e content you can access through DnD Beyond, I tend to make or use maps for key moments, battles and of course puzzles.

Homebrew rules

- Quick Potions: Drinking a Potion is a Bonus Action for you. Administering to another is a full action. - Perkins Crit: Max damage dice value + extra dice roll. - Death's Door: +1 Exhaustion when reaching 0HP - Plus Ultra: When you roll a successful Death Saving Throw you may move up to half your speed AND take one action OR bonus action. If you do gain +1 Exhaustion.

Safety

How Sean creates a safe table

Lines, Veils, etc - My games are going to be fairly light hearted here and definitely PG-13 at most. Think like you're going to a Marvel Movie, probably Thor: Ragnarok, some fun, some action, some goofiness, maybe a few serious moments, you might even have some light romance if that's what you're into! But on the whole I don't anticipate any too dark, serious, gruesome or grotesque taking place. Heck, I don't even really swear! That said, if at any time there is something that is making you uncomfortable simple send a quick message to me in Discord and we will quickly move on from it. Session 0 - Alright, this is of course a get to know you session. We will learn a little about each other, and our experience playing TTRPGs. We will review the outline, expectations and tone of the game. I will introduce the setting and prologue of the story and then we will build our characters together! We'll run a short intro scenario together, maybe solve a puzzle, squish some baddies and gain a clue to the secret of the Campaign! Session Wrap Up - At the end of each session we can debrief and share any Stars, Wishes or other expectations for future sessions!
