About the adventure

Set within a pocket of the Dark Heart of Andaluria Hope & Fear campaign frame, you start as a monster hunter that has caught whispers of a town in a dangerous state of denial. Over a century since the uprising against Emperor Arcedrio, you'd be forgiven for believing the region was now a Mediterranean-esque utopia if you were quickly passing through during the day. It's when you sit down with the locals or venture out at night that you begin seeing under the veil. Natural predators who once prowled the fields around Mourninghollow slowly migrated away and were eventually replaced by vile monsters, and even these savage beasts dare not cross the invisible boundary encircling the village. Rather than reach out for assistance, the settlement's elders have opted to move all inhabitants inward to the centre of the village. Treating this unseen barrier as their salvation, even as localised, rhythmic tremors pulse through the flagstones beneath their feet.

About me

Hi, I’m Brian! I’ve been running TTRPGs for about five years, mostly as a D&D 5e Dungeon Master with three campaigns and plenty of one-shots behind me. I enjoy welcoming new players, helping them find their footing, and making sure everyone has a great time at the table. I have experience with VTTs and map software, but I believe the most accessible and memorable games come from theatre of the mind. I use vivid description and imagination to bring the world to life. Maps and tokens can be useful, but I focus on painting scenes with words so players can step into the story without barriers. I also enjoy running other systems such as Pendragon, Monster of the Week, and some of Grant Howitt’s one-page RPGs. I’m always excited to learn and run new games too, and I already have The One Ring and Pathfinder on my shelf waiting for their turn at the table. My style leans toward collaborative storytelling, cinematic moments, and keeping the rules smooth so the narrative shines. Whether you want a full campaign, a quick one-shot, or a chance to try out a new system, I’ll bring the energy, structure, and flexibility to make it fun. Let’s roll some dice and see where the story takes us!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will use Alchemy to bring the level 3 characters to life, I encourage any use of material from the Core Rulebook or Hope & Fear expansion to create your character, including the (tier 2) equipment added as part of the Dark Heart of Andaluria frame. We will have an intro at the start of the session to build links between your character, the world and the fellow adventurers.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will gather on Discord, requiring a free account, where we can message before and after the game as well as being able to talk and share the spotlight during the adventure. The dice and character sheets will be managed through Alchemy, requiring another free account.

What Brian brings to the table

I may provide a slightly different tone or voice to character to allow them to stand out but I do not try to be a professional voice actor. I do my best to paint a picture, describing scenes and providing ambient background music where possible. My strengths lie in my ability to improvise and I pride myself on bringing a world to life in meaningful and exciting ways.

Homebrew rules

We will be following the Corerules & the Hope & Fear expansion, allowing any equipment from Dark Heart of Andaluria. The core rules do heavily suggest use of the Rule of Cool and I am more than happy for your characters to have a badass moment, especially when it keeps the narrative alive.

How Brian creates a safe table

Outside of Alchemy's built in X Cards and Lines & Veils, You will be able to privately message me on Discord at any point of the adventure to privately raise an issue and allow me to move our adventure around the problem rather than forcing through it.
