About the adventure
This is an offer for anyone who has ever thought "It would be so neat if my friends and I could play a game in that world" or "I have a great character idea, but no place that they fit in". This will be an epic story with feats of great heroism and terrible villainy, one where its initial form is decided between players and Game Master before becoming something more. I have 10+ years experience building homebrew worlds, and want to run a game with players passionate about their characters and the world at large. I want to run a game where the choices matter, and your character is a driving force in every quest and adventure. Let me be your Game Master, and let's tell great stories together!

About me
Hi there! I'm Jayden, or Skulgren in other places online! I started running D&D about ten years ago for my wife and a good friend as a way to relax after college classes. Since then the group has grown and we have been playing every week (mostly!) together, spanning 3 campaigns spanning every tier of play. I've done charity work as a volunteer GM, and run a smaller game for some streamer friends. I love running games that feel alive, where the players feel like the main characters on a stage filled with other actors. I still run 5e and have been using both the 2014 and 2024 rule set. I've got a homebrew world most of my games have been set in, but I've also run games in the Forgotten Realms and in Eberron. I like to run games where the players' goals and ambitions drive the story, with long story arcs that tie into character motivations. All of my games are collaborative, between players and the GM, with just one main rule: "Don't be a dick to each other." Everything else is optional and would be decided as a group before we start playing. Most of my games tend to be a bit more serious in tone, where the choices the players make have real and lasting consequences for themselves and for the world as a whole. Everything responds to player actions, for good and for bad, in a way that makes sense for their skills, temperaments, and abilities. Villains adapt to tactics, allies remember kindness, and both victories and failures lead to new stories instead of dead ends.

Creating your character
Levels will be decided at Session 0, but everyone will use the same starting array: 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16. Everyone will also start with at least one magic item of their choosing, likely more than one depending on starting level. All official races and classes are permitted.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need access to Discord. Familiarity with Foundry is a bonus, but not necessary. Voice chat will be handled via my Discord server; you'll receive the link once you join the game!
What Jayden brings to the table
At my table you will have maps for nearly every combat encounter, unique NPCs to interact with, music that (usually!) fit the tone and vibe of what is happening, and combat against enemies of all skills, temperaments, and cunning. The world will feel exciting and alive, with consistency and fun being the main rules of the game. I will keep the game safe and fun for everyone at the table.
Homebrew rules
There are many homebrew rules I like using to enhance the game, but all will be optional. Health potion as a bonus action, better damage scaling for 2014 monks, custom chart for wild magic, a daily chart for effects that (usually) are beneficial and only last a session, changes to death saves, etc. Everything will be decided as a group during the Session 0.

How Jayden creates a safe table
In addition to taking a break part way through, running periodic Session 0's, and the X card system, I also will send out a player survey to get an anonymous view of how everyone is enjoying the game. Additionally, everything under the "Content Warning" section of the listing is not set in stone. I might run spiderlike monsters during regular play, unless someone has an aversion to it, in which case I won't.
