About the adventure

Near the small port town Otari, the ruins of an old keep sit silent and empty. It's nothing more than picked-over rubble with a handful of old, bloody tall tales attached to it. Or so the locals thought. Recently, the beacon atop the keep's tallest tower flared to life, beaming an eerie and menacing light across the landscape. It's got the town spooked, and the townsfolk want someone brave and capable to look into it. Will you? Will you challenge the darkness with only your courage and a handful of legends to guide you? Can you survive long enough to reveal the truth waiting inside?

About me

Hello! I'm Zeke. I like running games. I like designing them, too. I love to bring unusual settings to life with deep lore and bespoke homebrew character options. In my games, you might test your survival skills in a corrupted hellscape, or travel through time to the Stone Age to battle an immortal dark lord before his rise to power, or protect a solarpunk utopia from strange mutant beasts with your favorite raygun. If you've always wanted to play in a game with a unique premise, and you're looking for a GM to make that game a reality, feel free to reach out to me.

Character creation

Creating your character

You'll create level 1 characters according to the core rules as written, except as noted below. Character Options Most uncommon and rare ancestries are available, including many new and unusual ones from BattleZoo sourcebooks. Uncommon and rare options should support your character concept. To keep rare options as rare as they ought to be, each one may only appear once in the campaign. (That means once someone plays an Exemplar, no one else can!) Feats You'll get additional feats from the Ancestry Paragon and Free Archetype variant rules. Good Guys Your character should be "one of the good guys," more or less. I'll leave that up to you to define. Pilot Episode Rule Between your first and second sessions of play, you can change anything about your character that you don't like.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord account. We'll use it for voice chat during game and to keep in touch between sessions. You will also need a mic. If you'll be playing from a noisy place or a place with lots of distractions, you need to have PTT (Push To Talk) in Discord set up before the game starts. This is a courtesy to your fellow players as well as the GM.

What Zeke brings to the table

A classic dungeon crawl experience Expect tactical challenges that leave the door open to creative solutions. Stealth and negotiation can often protect you just as well as a sturdy suit of armor. Proactive adversaries Foes won't wait patiently in the depths of the dungeon for you to come to them. Each one has their own goals and the will to achieve them. Added content This campaign will encompass more than what's in the Abomination Vaults adventure path. You might find yourself adventuring on a new side quest, fighting a unique monster or holding a never-before-seen magic item. An option to keep going after the campaign Once we finish the campaign at or around level 11, we'll decide as a group whether we want to end the story there or continue with another, higher-level campaign all the way to level 20.

Homebrew rules

Extra feats We'll use the Extra Archetype and Ancestry Paragon variant rules to give you more ways to customize your character. BattleZoo character options We'll have access to the BattleZoo library of monstrous ancestries and the character options that go with them. Have you ever wanted to play a troll cleric or a dragon barbarian? Now you can. Keeley's Hero Point Rule Hero points won't ever let you down in this game. Pilot Episode Rule Between your first and second sessions with a new character, you can tweak them however you like. Milestone-based character progression We're doing away with experience point calculations. You'll gain a new level just after the next major plot beat, or after four sessions pass. No PvP This includes theft and deception. This campaign is hard enough without players working against one another.

Safety

How Zeke creates a safe table

Prior to play, we'll compile a list of all participants' lines and veils. I might make minor tweaks to the campaign if needed for player comfort. During play, we'll use X-cards as a safety and consent tool. I have a module loaded into Foundry that lets you play your X-card at the push of a button.
