About the adventure
Aethravel is a world rebuilt from the edge of oblivion. Long ago, the cosmic horror Xal’Voryn—the All-Consuming Void—descended upon creation and nearly unmade it entirely. Continents were torn apart, civilizations vanished, and the gods raised a barrier around the surviving world before withdrawing beyond it. Now, generations later, kingdoms flourish atop the scars of that ancient devastation. Yet forgotten things are stirring, memories are beginning to fail, and something beyond the veil has learned that a world does not need to be conquered if its people can be persuaded to surrender it willingly. This is a player-driven sandbox campaign in which your characters—and the choices they make—will determine what Aethravel becomes. You may cross untamed frontiers, become entangled in the politics of its great capitals, recover histories lost during the Unmaking, build alliances, establish a home, pursue personal ambitions, or ignore the gathering darkness entirely. The world will respond to your victories, failures, loyalties, and rivalries. There is no predetermined path your party must follow, and no expectation that every group will experience the same story. For those who choose to confront the mystery at the campaign’s heart, a more guided story waits beneath the surface: an epic journey designed to carry characters from levels 1–18, uncovering Xal’Voryn’s slow return and culminating in a final stand against the horror that once nearly erased the world. Whether you become Aethravel’s defenders, reshape its nations, chase legends into forgotten places, or forge an entirely different destiny, this will be your party’s world—and your actions will decide what survives.

About me
Hey! My name is Jeff and I am coming back to DMing after a 5 year hiatus from the birth of my daughter. I have about 20 years of experience, first started as a player with my dad and uncles when I was twelve years old in 3.5e. Moved on to Pathfinder in late high school and began DMing there and continued on through college as a forever DM at that point. Converted to 5e shortly thereafter and haven't looked back since. What you can expect from me is a fair interpretation of the rules with the "rule of cool" being number 1. If you want to try it, and you can explain why it makes sense, at the very least I will let you roll for it. Ultimately, I am here to have a good time and I can't wait to start up more adventures soon now that my time is becoming more available as my daughter gets a bit older. What you can expect from my games: Full integration with music, sounds, "live maps", effect animations, a World Primer and Player's Handbook for my world. Personalized experience for your character with hooks integrated from your backstory into the flow of the main arc. Lively and varied NPCs that will help the world be alive. Notable and not-so-notable shopkeeps. And as much RP as you would like. I will never railroad, or steamroll your characters into decisions just for sake of progression or story. You will have your own sandbox.

Creating your character
We will have a formal Session 0 where we go through character creation together at the table. Any premade character concepts are absolutely welcome, but any homebrew elements may need revisions before being allowed at my table. I'll never tell you that you CAN'T play your character, but I will ask that it's power remains in-line with everyone else. Aethravel has deep history, culture, and lore that will likely impact your character and how they've experienced life in their formative years before becoming adventurers. So please understand that I do this Session 0 to make sure the story fits and we can explore options for integrating that backstory into the main objectives later on.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
What you need to play: Discord Account Working Microphone and Quiet Playing Space ForgeVTT account (it's free, the paid stuff is on my end)
What Jeff brings to the table
You will have ambient music and background effects when appropriate through use of a discord voice bot. You will have custom character token art should you wish (or feel free to AI/Google/Commission your own, I am not at all against that) You will have the opportunity to build a backstory that allows me to bring up certain elements later on during play. RaW trumps all, but if it is NOT explicitly stated then explain why you can do it. You can always try! 😁
Homebrew rules
We will go over this at Session 0 but really I don't disallow too terribly much.
