About the adventure

SESSION ZERO FREE This campaign will follow a sandbox, exploration-focused narrative navigating the events and challenges following the Legion's defeat at Mount Hyjal and the Arthas' ascension as the Lich King. The Hearthstone Expedition is the brainchild of an alliance of grand powers, with an agreement of spirited cooperation even before elements of the Alliance and the Horde. Their charter is the peaceful exploration and settlement of Kalimdor's wildest regions, a task that will take several lifetimes, as well as the reconquest of the Black Morass, which has become a major hotspot of demonic activity. There are demons to cast out, ancient ruins to plunder, and many new friends to make in this chronicle of exploration and heroic adventure! - A Note from the GM As someone who largely did not experience World of Warcraft first-hand, this version of the Warcraft setting will be inspired more by the classic titles than the...questionable directions Activision-Blizzard choose to take the story in. * This campaign is strictly no-AI, as I consider its use unethical. *

About me

I have been a GM ever since receiving a D&D3.5E starter set when I was a young lad. I was the kid who tried to start a D&D club in primary school, and I've been playing tabletop games of all kinds, from board games to wargames, ever since. I'm a kind and funny guy by all reports, and I've always been warmly received by my players (once, a player frothed at the mouth from excitement during a tense combat encounter at the end of a campaign!) I am also a designer, and I have been tweaking rules and making homebrew ever since I started GMing. I have been told before that I should write my adventures down and try to publish them, and honestly one day I do hope to become a published author of adventures and rulebooks (rather than just an informal one), and I'm even working on my own skirmish wargame, Flintstrike. I can be shy when it comes to putting myself out there like that, though...but one day soon, I hope.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created at the end of/during Session 0, after we've made sure everyone has a character that fits into the game world and the shared party story. D&D 5e character creation is mercifully pretty simple, so the majority of session 0 can be dedicated to the characters themselves, not their stat sheets.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You'll need a discord account to play, since that is the platform I use for voice communication during the game. I have a discord server where you'll find everything you need, from like-minded friendly people to all the homebrew and information you'll need to participate.

What Roy brings to the table

I bring an enjoyable, lore-consistent experience and provide an immersive world you can get lost in. From ambient music to characterful voices, I know when to let players' imaginations run wild invoking Rule of Cool and when to be strict about Rules as Written to ensure everyone at the table is having their equal share of a good time. I use the Foundry VTT in order to provide a cinematic experience with visual- and sound effects, digital character sheets and battlemaps that incorporate height levels and line of sight. I also use an amazing isometric perspective module that makes it look like all the characters are really in the thick of things, instead of using circular tokens.

Homebrew rules

This game will use the incredible community-built Warcraft 5E rules packet, using the latest version found here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1OFHsKpBOtMWB4JGSdxum3_86bvF7I8ob This includes species, classes, feats and spells. Content from D&D 5E books will only be used to fill any unforeseen gaps. I will also be homebrewing in a Naga species, and any other reasonable ones upon polite request.

Safety

How Roy creates a safe table

I keep the players at my table safe and comfortable by ensuring a warm atmosphere and by making it very clear that anyone can come to me with their concerns at any time. I also check in at the end of every session to make sure everyone is feeling positive and to see if there was anything that gave someone a bad experience during the game.
