About the adventure
An introductory mystery for Call of Cthulhu, presented as part of the Cult of Chaos organized play program. The investigators begin the scenario as survivors of a sinking ship, stranded on an isolated island with an old and malfunctioning lighthouse. What should be a desperate struggle for survival soon becomes something far stranger, as the investigators find themselves drawn into a mystery involving forces that are considerably less than human. This game is presented free of charge to players and is intended to be welcoming to both new and experienced players. If the table has an open seat, feel free to claim it—as long as you intend to attend. Come prepared to investigate, make questionable decisions, and discover just how much worse things can get after surviving a shipwreck.

About me
I have been playing TTRPG's since I was 8 years old. I started with the basic red box and have worked myself through a modest library of systems. I enjoy a lively table, and lean toward strong player agency within the confines of a given system.

Creating your character
Players will be provided pre-generated characters designed with this scenario in mind. They will be primarily a stat line, profession, possibly an age, and some notes regarding their role in the narrative or motivations. This leaves a lot of room for actually bringing the identity and actual character.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Have a pen and a piece of paper. Have access to a standard set of polyhedral dice. Digital equivalents to these are all acceptable. Discord links will be provided when I become aware a player has signed up.
What Joseph brings to the table
I run my games within the rules, with some flexibility when the situation calls for it. I especially enjoy giving players a great deal of agency and seeing what they choose to do with the situations presented to them. For atmosphere, I make use of sound effects through a soundboard, ambient noise and music, and digital handouts. My goal is to create an engaging experience while still leaving plenty of room for the players to shape the story through their own decisions.
Homebrew rules
Luck spends, pushed rolls, and advantage/disadvantage are all allowed at my table. If you're new, don't worry, I'm happy to explain these and am able to do so quickly. Also, feel free to message me ahead of time.

Safety
How Joseph creates a safe table
My main focus is player immersion, but that doesn't necessarily mean player discomfort. I want your characters to be scared, and I don't mind a good horror story lingering in your thoughts after the game. What happens at the table, however, should never come at the expense of your personal comfort. I try to be attentive to the room and to the people at my table, and I expect everyone to treat one another with respect. If something isn't working for you, you should feel comfortable communicating that. And if you need them, the safety tools listed below are always available. Use them. No explanation or justification is required.
