About the adventure

Welcome to Waterdeep, the crown jewel of the sword coast, with hundreds of guildhalls and temples of all devotions, shops and goods from the far reaches of the realms, and peoples of all walks of life. I am very new player friendly, I encourage players to try new things and pull shenanigans (within reason). In my opinion there is no "right" or "correct" turn to take, anything can happen if the dice allow it and you can imagine it. My primary goal is to get as many folks playing D&D as I can, new players, returning veterans, or forever DMs. All are welcome at my table.

About me

Hi! My name is Halen, I've been a DM since 2019 and I'm looking to run some games of high fantasy or sci-fi kick-assery based on the rules and guidelines of 5th edition Dungeons & Dragons. I also have 3 years of theatre experience and over 4,000 hours logged on Roll20, granted there's always room for improvement and reason to learn. I've played numerous characters as well, ranging from a Christmas gnome artificer hell bent on saving Santa, to a human barbarian who made his money as a living statue street performer. Being an active player myself, I like to think I have a good idea of what players tend to enjoy but this does range from group to group, so please, let's talk about it! My default game preference is high fantasy, high magic. Subject to experimental firearms/explosives as who doesn't enjoy a good BOOM! In my games it isn't DM VS Players, rather a cooperative group storytelling/improv exercise where most things the mind can imagine, can happen, if the dice allow it too. I tend to be enabling with what players can do regarding shenanigans but I rarely pull punches on dice rolls, positive or negative. If I sound like the kind of DM you are looking for, reach out to me and let's discuss things further. Ideally I want to run games for newer players as I dive deeper into finding my style of game.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters can be premade and presented to me anytime before or during a session 0. Alternatively we can build one together at your leisure when I've got some extra time. All WotC content is allowed, anything else is subject to review but most likely will be allowed.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A roll20 account, discord account, and a decent microphone/headset for comms. Preferably a quiet place to play as background noise really throws me out of the flow.

What Halen brings to the table

Core rules, the campaign, art, magical items, homebrew stuff as well.

Homebrew rules

Flanking changes, potion action changes, dm inspiration per session, casting two spells in a turn alterations.

Equipment needed to play

Headphones

Internet

Microphone

Safety

How Halen creates a safe table

I don't usually go into adult themes too much, a touch of magical drugs here, a romance side plot there, maybe a few rolls on a carousing table during a grand feast. Of course if anything comes up that makes anyone feel too uncomfortable, we'll get away from the scene or topic as quick as possible then follow up after the session.
