About the adventure
“We’ve all heard the stories of the wondrous, alluring, and delightfully dangerous city of Arkand. Perched on the easternmost coast of the known world, it has been home to dragons and demons, pirates and bandits, mages and adventurers. It is often said that all waves lead to Arkand, and while this is not true, it certainly is true that Arkand opens up to those who dare to explore it. It is a city for the open-minded and the bravehearted, for those bold enough to hope and believe. It keeps its secrets like a mother dragon guards her eggs, and while prying them free is never without danger, the rewards can be beyond imagining!” In ages past, when the war between dragons and demons raged, a demonic horde clashed with a flight of dragons over the Sea of Dreams. The dragons triumphed and banished the demons beyond the bottom of the sea. As the seabed was sealed, a great earthquake shook the land. The rock of Arkand rose at the world’s edge, and dragons settled there to watch over the sea and the threat lurking below it. The dragons of the Sea of Dreams played a vital role in the war between the dragon emperor Eledain and the demon lord Sathmog. Prince Duendor, Eledain’s fourth son, earned the dragons’ trust, and his knights became the first dragon riders. He built a castle on the dragons’ rock and founded the Order of the Dragon Riders. But it would not last. Like his father, Duendor did not trust the dragons. He sought not alliance, but dominion. With the help of his high priest, Wudendal, he forged powerful artifacts designed to tame the dragons, which immediately provoked their wrath and contempt. The dragons turned on Duendor and Wudendal. In the dreadful battle that followed, which left Duendor dead and buried beneath the ruins of his order, the last bond between humans and dragons was severed. For centuries, the rocks of Arkand stood deserted. Every now and then a fishing family would settle there, but few stayed long. Then came Blackbeak, the legendary mallard pirate and privateer. The rumors of the wild and ravenous sea were just what he needed to keep the curious away and establish a haven for less scrupulous sailors. And for a few decades, piracy flourished along the coast and throughout the sea. But the pirates’ greed and uncompromising pursuit of freedom fed the demonic influence beyond the sea floor. After two dozen years, the demons launched a concerted assault to break free from their captivity. The seabed shook and the ground gave way. A huge tidal wave swept across Arkand, washing away all life. The age of pirates was over. At the bottom of the sea, the draconic seal still pulsed with power, unbroken. Beyond it lurked the demons, bitter and diminished. The Sea of Dreams calmed. Before long, people returned to the area. Some came looking for the legendary Dragon Rider Academy, others for pirate treasure, or possibilities. It quickly a hub of trade and friendship, a magical melting pot for adventurers! Welcome to Arkand!
