About the adventure

Beneath the shimmering aurora of the far north, Icewind Dale has been trapped in an endless winter. The sun no longer rises above the horizon, savage blizzards sweep across the tundra, and the isolated communities of Ten-Towns struggle to survive as food, warmth, and hope begin to disappear. Somewhere beyond the flickering lights of civilization, the Frostmaiden Auril watches over her frozen domain. Yet the eternal night has awakened more than desperation. Ancient secrets lie buried beneath the ice, strange creatures stalk the darkness, and something long forgotten waits to be discovered beneath the frozen wastes. Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden is a Levels 1–12 Dungeons & Dragons campaign combining dark fantasy, arctic survival, exploration, mystery, and horror. You’ll begin as adventurers traveling between the settlements of Ten-Towns, taking dangerous jobs, investigating strange occurrences, and meeting the desperate people trying to survive the Everlasting Rime. As the campaign unfolds, those seemingly isolated mysteries begin revealing something much larger. Your journey will take you across the frozen tundra, into forgotten ruins, through deadly mountains, and eventually toward secrets buried beneath Icewind Dale for centuries. Expect exploration, roleplay, mysteries, dangerous combat, memorable NPCs, strange discoveries, and plenty of opportunities for your choices to shape the story. This campaign emphasizes the feeling of being adventurers in a vast, beautiful, and hostile wilderness. Light and warmth matter. Shelter matters. Who you trust matters. The settlements of Ten-Towns provide islands of civilization where you can make allies, enemies, and reputations before venturing back into the darkness. While the adventure embraces horror and isolation, this isn't intended to be nonstop misery. There will be humor, taverns, colorful characters, strange encounters, victories worth celebrating, and moments of warmth around the fire between expeditions into the cold. Think dark fantasy adventure with survival-horror atmosphere, rather than a relentlessly grim horror campaign. Players who enjoy open exploration, character-driven roleplay, tactical combat, mysteries, and discovering hidden lore should feel especially at home here. There are numerous problems without a single predetermined solution, and creative approaches are encouraged. Your characters don't need to begin as legendary heroes destined to save the world...they can be mercenaries, explorers, treasure hunters, wanderers, locals, scholars, or simply people unfortunate enough to become trapped in Icewind Dale. What they become once the darkness closes around them is up to you. The cold is growing worse. The nights are growing longer. Something ancient stirs beneath the ice. Welcome to Icewind Dale. Try to stay warm.

About me

Salutations and roll for Initiative! I have been playing D&D 5e since Curse of Strahd came out and haven't stopped. Four years ago I became a professional DM and started my own online server and have been running my pay to play games ever since. I'm a fan of rule of cool, enjoy spending my freetime finding new battlemaps and writing up side quests for my players, I also enjoy applying music to help set the theme and use Kenku FM for music and sfx. The one thing I don't do is coddle me players, I keep the stakes high and PC death is a real possibility, so if your looking for a challenge and don't want your DM to hand hold you through encounters then I'm your DM. If you want to hear from my players you're more then welcome to speak with them too!

Character creation

Creating your character

Since the campaign is already underway, character creation will happen before your first game session. I'll run you through a private Session 0 where we'll create your character, discuss how they fit into the campaign, establish any important connections to the setting, and make sure you're ready to jump into the ongoing story. Ability scores are rolled, but if you're unhappy with your rolls, you can choose to use the Standard Array instead. Your character will be created directly in Roll20, and I'll help walk you through the process if needed. You do not need to purchase any books or additional content. I'll provide access to everything you need for character creation during our Session 0, including the available character options and campaign-specific information.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a mic and headset for audio purposes. In addition, you will need to setup free accounts on Roll20 and Discord.

What DM Deadman brings to the table

I have a paid Roll20 account so all the benefits of a Pro subscription using their API features. I have a subscription to CzePeku and Neutral Party battlemaps, Kenku FM for music & sfx, Discord for voice and community with other players in my games. I also have the current DC20 0.10.5 beta pdf and several other pdfs for DC20 like magic item creation, expanded ancestry options and monster collection pdfs. For myself I am a very laid back GM, I like to joke around and have fun and not take everything to serious. I like to keep the rules light and approve of improv and thinking outside the box ideas. I enjoy doing character voices, creating boss mechanics and side quest activities.
