About the adventure
Magical Pets is a Lasers & Feelings variant in which you play the familiars of students at a school for wizards and witches. It is an extremely simple game system perfect for novices and younger players. Rules will be taught. During the setup of the game, you will make your animal characters and also create the school that your humans (or elves or whatever) attend. All that information will then help to create the adventure that your magical pets will take part in. Therefore, no two sessions will ever be exactly the same.

About me
I learned to play my first TTRPG (Basic D&D) at age 9, almost fifty years ago. Within three years of that, I started GMing, beginning with D&D, Gamma World, and Traveller. Since that time, I have played scores of different TTRPG systems, (and starting around age 19, several LARP systems as well), and I haven't paused for more than a couple of months since then. Currently, I run a monthly D&D 5e (2014) campaign and a weekly Masks: New Generation PbtA campaign for my offline friends. But I have even more stories I want to share with the world at large!
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
Character creation occurs at the beginning of the session. Each player will choose: 1) A type of familiar (cat, owl, chameleon, whatever) 2) A trait, usually an adjective (observant, intimidating, stealthy, etc) 3) A number describing your stat from 2-5. When you roll a d6 above your stat, you succeed on pet-like actions (leaping, creeping, peeping, etc). When you roll a d6 below your stat, you succeed on magical type actions (understanding magic, reading people-books, using flying carpets, etc). 4) A name for your magical pet!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need to join the Discord server for the game and hopefully learn how to roll the dice with the Discord app, but no other advance preparation is needed.
What David: The Bearded One brings to the table
I will teach the game to all players and provide the 2-page PDF for download if players wish to own their own copy. I will facilitate the game, describing the environment, atmosphere, and all NPCs that your pets encounter. I will answer all game-related questions and keep the story moving and ensure it reaches a reasonable conclusion.

How David: The Bearded One creates a safe table
Before character creation, we will collaborate to compile a Lines & Veils document to ensure that no problematic material appears "on screen". The game has an open door policy, and players who are made to feel uncomfortable should be free to remove themselves from the table if they need to. After the game, we can discuss any troubling topics which came up during the adventure and provide the GM with feedback as needed.
