About the adventure

Thedas is in chaos. In the five years since Elgar'nan and Ghilan'nain died and their Archdemons were defeated, the Blight continues to plague the realm. In the south, the Korcari Wilds teem with dark spawn while the King of Ferelden is rumored to be going mad. In the West, the throne of Orlais lay empty and civil war seems imminent. To the North, a leaderless Antaam rampages across Tevinter and Antiva. In the East, ships disappear beneath the waves as great leviathans are spotted in the Waking Sea and Amaranthine Ocean. It should be a time of rebuilding and unification, but strife, in-fighting and opportunism reigns. To the beleaguered people, strange messengers arrive from all corners of Thedas proclaiming that salvation is at hand for Andraste walks the land once more. Beneath it all, something darker moves. The Veil is safe, but the Blight remains. For every hot spot put down, another reveals itself. Some believe an unnamed Archdemon remains while others think the Blight has a spirit of its own, conducting its massive symphony. The truth is something old, something dark. And the Blightwatch must rise to meet it.

About me

Hello! I've been running and playing RPG games since the mid-90s, starting with Star Wars 2nd Edition from West End Games through many others afterward. I'm typically that guy in your group of friends who is always ready to run a game and prefers to GM. I'm a writer and game designer by trade and I greatly enjoy telling an engaging and fun story for everyone. If you have any interest in the games I'm running, always feel free to reach out! I've run a vast amount of games over the years, from D&D (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions) to Star Wars (every version!) to Burning Wheel to White Wolf's various games and many many others. I love game systems and learning new ones with the time I have available. My collection of games is nearing library-level even though I know I'll never play most of them. If you're still reading then I guess you want to know more about me? Well, I'm a SciFi and Fantasy author as well as a video game designer. I work for a large AAA publisher but I prefer to keep my day job out of my spotlight. Due to that you can be certain I love PC and console games and they are definitely my stress salve. I'm also a lover of combat flight simulators and aviation in general. It's definitely one of my biggest loves. Well, that and coffee. Lots of coffee. The only thing I love more than coffee is my adorable son, my lovely wife, and my old and grumpy dog.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will create their characters in a FREE Session 0. We'll be following rules as written for character creation and using Foundry VTT for character sheets. If players are unfamiliar with the Dragon Age timeline, specifically Inquisition and Veilguard, all will be given in as much of a spoiler-free way as possible. For now, there are few things that will be considered "canon" for the purposes of this game. The Hero of Ferelden made the ultimate sacrifice to kill the Archdemon in Origins. Alistair remains King of Ferelden, ruling with Queen Anora. Hawke was a Mage who survived their encounter in Dragon Age Inquisition. The Inquisitor was a female elf who left the world at the end of Dragon Age: Veilguard. Cullen Rutherford is the new Inquisitor. Divine Victoria is Cassandra Pentaghast. Rook remains an unknown factor.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have a discord account ready so you can join our server. If you're familiar with Dragon Age, consider what type of character you're interested in being. You can be from any major faction including the Grey Wardens, Antivan Crows, etc. You will be making a brand new hero for this story. So they shouldn't have been a member of the Veilguard, the Inquisitor, or anything canon. Their story already happened, it's time for a new one to rise.

What Mike brings to the table

I will provide the VTT with all relevant information for you to use. We will be utilizing a lot of Theater of the Mind, but battlemaps will be used when necessary. I have ambient music but I leave it up to the players if they wish to utilize it. Some hate it, some love it.

Safety

How Mike creates a safe table

We will be utilizing the X card for anything that comes up in the game that makes you immediately uncomfortable. Before the game, during Session 0, we'll make a list of Do's and Don'ts (Lines and Veils) to include in the game. We always take a 10 minute break sometime during the session. I try to make this around the middle but sometimes it changes depending on what's happening.
