About the adventure

Deep beneath the city of Absalom, a sinister clan of dwarves and a mysterious crime boss are working together to claim the secrets of a fallen god. Though you arrived here as prisoners, you will leave as explorers - heroes - perhaps, even, champions of a new destiny for humanity! This lore-rich adventure hints at some of the greatest mysteries in the Golarion setting - the rise of Aroden as god of humanity, the cataclysmic events that almost drove humanity to extinction, and the god's mysterious disappearance. For new players, it is a great introduction to the main themes of the setting - for Golarion-nerds it is a rewarding exploration of the questions we have all been asking! We will be playing weekly at the same time, using Foundry VTT and Discord, each session lasting about three and a half hours with a break. This is a particularly beginner friendly campaign, both because of the level range and because of the relatively short length.

About me

Greetings, adventurers. My name is George, and I have been immersing myself in TTRPGs since around 2001. My journey into the realm of Game Mastering took a serious turn with the release of Pathfinder. My background in theatre, history, and education has been instrumental in shaping my GM style, which emphasizes dramatic conflict, challenging decisions, and character development. I’ve had the pleasure of engaging with a diverse and international player population, both online and in person. This experience has enriched my understanding of the game and its global appeal. The games I run are primarily drawn from official Paizo publications for Pathfinder, supplemented by key resources from publishers like Kobold Press and Sly Flourish. In each campaign, I make it a point to engage with the player characters’ backgrounds. This begins with a session zero where we collaboratively create characters that align with the theme of the campaign. Each campaign I run is a unique world unto itself. I strive to create a distinctive and consistent atmosphere for each one, whether it’s the dark and grim tone of a horror campaign or the epic battles of a high fantasy adventure. Some campaigns may include unique mechanics tailored to their theme. My games, even when played remotely online, aim to emulate the feel of a traditional tabletop experience as much as possible. I prefer to keep technology from overwhelming the gameplay, allowing us to focus on the human elements of the game - the people around our virtual table. I am always available to answer questions through this site. If you have any doubts before signing up for a session, please contact me. I am always eager to hear from established parties who are looking for a new GM. Whether you have already been gaming together, or you are a group of friends, coworkers, or a family group, I would love to embark on an adventure with you. I am also open to requests from existing/ongoing groups for a specific campaign for your party. Whether you have a published module in mind or just an idea that you’d like to develop, I’m here to help you play the game you want to play! Remember, the essence of tabletop gaming is to have fun and create memorable stories together. Let’s roll the dice!

Character creation

Creating your character

We will have a session Zero to discuss the themes of the campaign - you do not need to create characters before this first session. This adventure includes six new unique "rare" backgrounds tied to the campaign which will be provided as a handout.

The current party

This is a beginner friendly, short-ish adventure.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

A good quality headset is required to play, to prevent audio disturbance and feedback. A webcam is encouraged but not required. You will need to create a (free) Forge account to access the virtual table top, and a Discord account for communication. You do not need to make any purchases as all the player rules for Pathfinder are available for free - links will be provided. Please note that the Foundry Virtual Table Top is not compatible with smart phone or tablet use.

What George brings to the table

Everything needed to participate in the game will be provided electronically, through Foundry and Discord: character sheets, dice, maps, handouts, and full access to the Pathfinder 2e ruleset.

Homebrew rules

We will not be using any optional rules in this adventure, though there is a unique mechanic called "Destiny Points" that will be introduced during session Zero.

Safety

How George creates a safe table

During session zero, we will discuss our personal limits on what kind of content we would like to include in the game, using a tool called Lines and Veils. Though this is a fairly typical high fantasy adventure, it does contain some potentially triggering themes, in particular that the fact that the player characters begin as captives, after being abducted, and subdued through the use of narcotics. We will be taking a ten to fifteen minute break roughly halfway through each session. A version of the "X card" module will be enabled during play, and if there are any other modules that would make the experience better for you please let me know and I will look into adding them. Finally, no language or behaviour that makes other players feel uncomfortable or unwelcome at the table will be tolerated.
