About the adventure

It's October 30th, 1997. The clock says 11:30 PM. You wake up without a heartbeat, without air in your lungs, and with a hunger that always claws at your mind. You're the latest vampire turned in the small Michigan town of Scarlett Falls, a decaying place that has already seen its best days decades ago. There's not many kindred in town; the ivory towers of the Camarilla and bold revolution of the Anarchs seem far from here. The vampire government here looks more like a small-town gang than an elite criminal organization. You've always known this town is weird, but as you navigate these blood-splattered and black-clad nights, you'll see a whole new horrible side to your home... This game harkens back to the origins of Vampire the Masquerade itself, the gothic tradition of the 80s/90s, while updating it with modern RPG systems and game philosophies. We'll be keeping the stuff that enraptured gamers for decades and leaving behind the unnecessary/harmful parts. The focus is less on centuries-long labyrinthine political schemes or 'superheroes with fangs' and more on your character's relationships, personal story, and the horror of watching yourself become a monster. Expect touchstones to be very important parts of the story, your humanity to be meaningfully challenged, and your actions to always have consequences. LORE: This game takes a relatively fast and loose stance in regards to lore. The timeline is *mostly* v5's. Other supernatural creatures exist, but don't anticipate them to be 1-for-1 for the pre-existing splats, i.e my werewolves may not necessarily be the lupines of WtA, my ghosts not the wraiths of WtO. Connections to canon characters will be limited, our focus is on a low-power and street-level setting so only characters who fit into that will have a big screen presence. Some other major metaplot points are: - The Banu Haqim and Hecata are very freshly developed new clans; Ur-Shulgi has recently awakened and the Family Reunion only occured months ago. - The Tremere pyramid still stands, though its reach into Scarlet Hill is limited. - Clans Lasombra and Tzimisce are still considered wholly aligned with the Sabbat, with those seeking residence in the city being forced to constantly prove their rejection of the sect. - Setites are not yet rebranded as Clan Ministry, instead remaining interlopers seen with mistrust/perverse curiosity. - Clan Ravnos has not gone through the Week of Nightmares - they remain a minor clan, but not a dying one yet.

About me

Hello! I go by Jupiter, and I have a deep and abiding love for TTRPGs that I want to give to as many tables as possible. I rolled my first d20 with my middle school friends in a snowed-in cabin, and have been spellbound to the wonderful worlds we make together ever since. I've been playing and running games whenever I can, and have been GMing for the better part of a decade now. In addition, I've been taught by a community of master-class GMs and players on how to run for a beautiful multitude of tables, and I'd love to share what they've given me to as many people as I can. I've got a personal preference for urban fantasy/urban horror games, with my favorite DMing moments to date being from those games/genres. But beyond that, I love running any system that rewards player creativity, strong cooperative roleplaying, and a desire to engage with your character and the world. My favorite games that I've run are Vampire: The Masquerade, a multi-season chronicle in my own hometown, and a truly mind-bending Wildsea campaign with the trippiest ending I've ever seen. bsky: https://bsky.app/profile/jupitercalvinttrpg.bsky.social

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will be done a table together, to establish everyone's role in the coterie and the ties you have to each other. Everyone will start as a fledgeling. Custom loresheets will be provided as options, along with the following loresheets (5 dots cannot be taken at character creation, 4 dots are allowed on a case-by-case basis): - All bloodline/descendent loresheets (with GM permission) - Circulatory system - Occult Artifacts - The Pyramid (up to 2 dots) - Lupine Hunter - The Cobweb - Blood Plagued - Kindred Social Media Influencer In addition, Tremere/Ravnos PCs can only use their alternate banes, due to the historical period.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please make a discord account to access my server, with access being granted after you've signed up and we determine that this game is going to be a good expirience for you.

What Jupiter brings to the table

I will provide PDFs of all necessary rulebooks/character sheets, music carefully chosen for each scene, three-dimensional NPCs with recognizable voices for each of them (to the best of my ability!). I usually run Rules-as-Intended unless there is an egregious error in the rules. I focus on PC stories and work to make sure everyone has the opportunity to roleplay to their heart's content. I'll make sure you have meaningful challenges and struggles as characters; kicking you when you're down but being ready to pick you back up. I am fully committed to whatever story the players seek to engage in, and I will always be your characters biggest fan!

Homebrew rules

Combat will be strictly theater of the mind. The humanity system will be replaced with the corruption system. You have a 5-box health box for corruption, which is marked when you violate chronicle tenets/your humanity convictions. Filling up this box will net you a beast mark, a permanent flaw reflecting your monstrous nature taking over. Corruption also plays into willpower rolls/tests, giving you a bonus if the Beast doesn't presently have its fangs entirely sunk into you.

How Jupiter creates a safe table

Lines and Veils will be discussed at session 0, although you can feel free to send me this information beforehand. We will take a 10 minute break about halfway through our sessions, and we will be going through a debriefing/check-in with how the session went. I run with an open-door policy, but please inform the group if you need to take a break. We will be using DMs for X/N/O cards.
