About the adventure

Icewind Dale, in the far north of the Forgotten Realms, is a harsh place, yet life finds a way here. The rugged folk do their best to survive in a land that is constantly at minus fifty degrees. Foul things prowl the wilderness, and mysteries and dangers are bountiful here, for any brave adventurers that venture to this frozen north. Those who dwell here are trapped in neverending nature. Foul folk live apart from the small trappings of society with evil plans. Wizards are seeking something in this land, and a strange recluse bears hatred in his heart for the few towns in the land, plotting their destruction. If you dare to venture forth into the wilderness to save the land from an evil demigoddess, prepare yourselves. This adventure holds horror, terror similar to John Carpenter's The Thing, and more. Steady your hearts and your will, for you will have desperate need for both.

About me

I have loved DND since I first started playing some years ago. I've been a player for a long time, and have DM'ed off and on. I love all the stories we can tell with DND, and the cooperative story telling DND offers is amazing to me. In spare time I cuddle with my adorable kitty, and play Baldur's Gate. My day job is the gloriously dull work of retail.

Character creation

Creating your character

You can choose any race in the majority of the DND 5e books, along with classes or subclasses. Artificer is included, as well as Blood Hunter, feel free to pick it. I am also within reason willing to add in a few homebrew alterations to make things more enjoyable. Come up with a character with a reason to be in Icewind Dale, be it someone living there or visiting for some reason or another. Provide enough of a backstory for me to also add in a personal quest eventually for your character. Stats will use my enhanced array of 17, 15, 13, 12, 10 and 8, and we'll start level 1.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Have a working mic, discord account, roll20 account and internet connection and a computer that can handle it all.

What Dylan brings to the table

I always do my best to provide a special experience. I want my players to feel that their choices, decisions, and characters matter and have a place in this world. I always try to find a way to fit in what the players want above all else, within small limits. I have a year's worth experience in running games professionally, and hope to run many more. This experience taught me that above all, good story telling is the most important thing, and those stories are done by good communication between players and the DM and collaborating on this. I also try to go rule of cool mostly. With DND I like the quote of, "The code is more what you call guidelines than actual rules".

Homebrew rules

Potions are a bonus action. Monks gain extra ki points equal to their WIS mod. Intimidation can be used by strength or charisma. I use Luck Points instead of Inspiration. Wizards and sorcerers gain Find Familiar as a class feature and not a learned spell.

Safety

How Dylan creates a safe table

During session zero we will go over any and all things that could be bothersome to a player. They can be brought up privately or publicly, and I will keep record of them all. They can be altered at any time. Along with that, at any moment during a session if a player is uncomfortable the player can tell me and I will instantly call it off and stop the scene. We also will have lines and veils, and any player can add to it whenever they wish. Along with that, after a session if a player wishes to ask me something or bring up something that worried them they are welcome to do so at any moment.
