About the adventure

In a crooked house lives a Crooked Man with a crooked grin. He raises crooked arms to a Crooked Tree at the edge of midnight and hears the whispers of the Old Ones. They speak of a beast that stalks the darkest woods and darkest hearts, a crown of horns upon its head. If you lose your way and feel a warm breath that chills you to the bone, run. Follow the songs of harvest time, and before long, you’ll find revelry in the dancing shadows of blazing wicker. No matter your story, these lonesome, misty rails will deliver you to where the hallowed cannot save you. Now is the time to brave the dark wood, beware the witching hour, and weave your own dreadful folktale underneath the Crooked Moon. πŸŒ‘πŸŒ’πŸŒ“πŸŒ”πŸŒ•πŸŒ‘πŸŒ’πŸŒ“πŸŒ”πŸŒ• Welcome to the world of Druskenvald! A crooked place of neverending night. Here, you'll embark on the fated path leading you along the story of this dreadful folktale. Full of horror, laughs, and the weight of freeing a land gripped in the claws of sinister evil.

About me

Howdy! I'm Elliot, I've been a Dungeon Master for about years and I specialize in light-hearted horror. I've experimented with loads of different systems and have been working as a DM in professional settings for four years now. Although I have a strong passion and love for D&D, my background is mostly in the arts and theatre (surprise surprise). I’ve got a degree in acting and have taken numerous improv classes, all of which I use exclusively to run D&D now! I’m currently working on getting into animation, but in the mean time I thought working through start playing would be a nice gig. All of my games are focussed on storytelling with a heavy side of scares, with that, I try to make sure I have a lot of safety tools in place so that everyone at my tables feels comfortable enough to fully immerse themselves in roleplay. I have a 0 tolerance policy for homophobia, bigotry, sexism, transphobia or any other kind of blatant prejudice, as someone who identifies as queer and mixed raced, I am firm in creating a safe and welcoming environment for anyone who wants to play at my table. All in all, I’m a huge queer nerd who loves telling stories with people and wants to ensure everyone has a fun time in my games!

Preparing for the session

πŸŒ™ Discord (Mic required, camera preferred! I will usually be on camera) πŸŒ™ DndBeyond πŸŒ™ Roll20

What Elliot brings to the table

Horror relies on its atmosphere, so I aim to build the scene as best I can. πŸŒ™ Kenku FM for music and sound effects πŸŒ™ Maps and NPC Art πŸŒ™ Rule of Cool (within reason!) πŸŒ™ Roleplay heavy, with some deadly combat mixed in.

Homebrew rules

I have most of my house rules outlined on my server, for your future reference. In the meantime here are some of the big ones: πŸŒ™Improved Critical Hits (Natural 20s do rolled damage + max dice damage, eliminates the feeling of rolling two 1s on a crit) πŸŒ™ Cure Wounds heals maximum dice πŸŒ™ Strictly NO PvP, this includes stealing from each other πŸŒ™ Heroic Inspiration - every PC gets one reroll per session

Safety

How Elliot creates a safe table

I take player safety very seriously - just because we're playing a horror campaign does not mean I want to trigger people or make them uncomfortable! πŸŒ™ Colour cards used at the table (Red, Yellow, Green) πŸŒ™ Consent Sheets πŸŒ™ Session 0 πŸŒ™ Open Door policy Please still check the content warnings ahead of time - while I do try my best to be as accomodating as possible, there are some things that are prewritten in this campaign (like insects and clowns) that I can't unfortunately avoid!
