About the adventure

An homage to the newly growing genre of Modern World + Dungeons, as seen in "Dungeon Crawler Carl", and countless Light Novels. This is a heavily customized Nimble campaign designed to evoke the feeling of organic, meaningful character progression and discovery set in a fantastical apocalypse where survival requires creativity and flair. A mysterious otherworldly force has claimed our internal spaces for their own purposes. An enigmatic messenger communicates with you and other Humans chosen as Champions, guiding you towards the goal of reclaiming them. What are their motives? What now grows in the structures that once held humanity safe? Explore warped reflections of familiar locales, and defeat, befriend or trick the entities within. Win back your buildings, and find a way to save your world - or at least make yourself a place within it.

About me

I'm a Canadian cat-dad with over 20 years of TTRPG experience. I've been running games since school days, and thinking about them for as long as I can remember. I genuinely spend most of my days working on or running games, because it's what I love. Here's what some of my players have to say about me: "a joy to talk with both inside and outside of the game." ~ KingVulture "one of the best GMs I’ve ever had. Maybe the best." ~ Kat "a brilliant, eccentric wizard", "unstoppable madman" ~ Kriss "The guy is devious." ~ ImprovBuck "A genuine and dramatic Dm." ~ Sean My goal is to run custom campaigns you'll fondly remember for the rest of your life. Send me a DM if you have a crazy idea.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created in the first session, as the process will be simplified for this game. A few notable differences, detailed further in Homebrew: - Characters will start at level 0, with 2 skills points and a 2, 1, 0, -1 stat set - Characters are Human (for now) - Players will make 2 characters, with the expectation one might not survive past the first session - Characters will not use Backgrounds

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a Discord account (to contact me an play in the games), and a Roll20 account. Invites to the discord and Roll20 will be provided on initial introductions.

What Alex brings to the table

🗺️ Maps for everything - lots of interaction, making full use of dynamic lighting with secrets hidden throughout 👹 Unique and classic monsters with hand(paint.net)-crafted tokens for every single one 🎤 Voices, music, and the occasional sound effect ⚔️ Thrilling, out of control battles with mind-bending monsters and well-balanced challenge 🧩 Puzzles and challenges designed by malicious minds waiting for a sharp wit to cut down 🛖 Stronghold progression, in a world where you have to fight for every roof, linked to your efforts in the Dungeons

Homebrew rules

I've taken out all the classes, melted them into Talents, and then added some extra fun bits for variety. It is designed to mimic the feel of organic classless RPG character progression, and provide maximum build options without destroying the numbers. This is an extensive customization - though the core numbers and mechanics remain more or less the same, do NOT play if you're looking for the "Classic", "Standard" Nimble experience. This is not that game.

Safety

How Alex creates a safe table

For all my players, I run a short orientation where I go over my personal table rules and safety tools. Lines and Veils are discussed during this one-on-one, as well as my simple Golden Rules of: Respect, and Inclusion. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Roll20's X, N, and O cards are slightly different, but function the same - I explain its use before play. Finally, my games include scheduled breaks, and additional ones can be taken as needed, by request, with no judgement.
