About the adventure

1,000 years ago, the War of Dragons ended an age of devastation and gave rise to the Melorian Empire, which united much of Myridia beneath a lasting peace. Kingdoms flourished, trade routes and cities grew, and the horrors of the old world faded into history. However, this prosperity has begun to wither. Nature seems to be imbalanced. Monsters creep closer into civilization. Raiders and pirates prey upon once-secure trade routes. And as the Empire tries to tighten its grip upon its kingdoms, old loyalties are beginning to falter, and Myridia stands dangerously close to civil war. You and other truth-seekers enter this world not as legendary heroes, but as adventurers searching for their place within it. Travel from humble villages and perilous roads to ancient ruins, enchanted forests, sprawling magical cities, and the grand academies that Meloria has to offer. Take contracts, pursue personal ambitions, investigate forgotten history, forge alliances, make enemies, and decide for yourself which mysteries and truths are worth uncovering. The deeper you dig, however, the more you may begin to question whether Myridia's history is quite as settled as its rulers would have you believe. And what you do with these, at times, uncomfortable truths is up to you... 📜 Uncover a Forgotten Age — Explore ancient ruins, forbidden records in the archives of great academies, lost civilizations, and remnants of a world that existed long before its current ruler wrote its history. ⚖️ Choose Who You Trust — Encounter kingdoms, faiths, secret societies, criminals, scholars, and political factions with competing ideas for what Myridia should become. Few conflicts have a simple right answer. 🗺️ Explore a Living World — Follow rumors, pursue personal goals, investigate mysteries, and venture into the corners of Myridia that interest your party. 🔥 Rise From Adventurers to Legends — Begin at Level 1, dealing with dangers that matter to ordinary people. As your reputation grows, so will the scale of the threats, choices, and consequences surrounding you. 🎭 Leave Your Mark — Your character's ambitions, relationships, victories, failures, and backstory have a place in this world. The choices your party makes can change communities, factions, and eventually the course of Myridia itself. Some truths have been buried for a reason. Others have simply been forgotten to time. And some may force you to decide whether the world was better off never knowing them. What truth will you seek?

About me

Greetings adventurers! My name is Elaren, and I have been DMing for about 6 years, where I have fallen in love with creating unforgettable and immersive D&D experiences. For the past couple of years, I have been building my own world/setting named Myridia, where I have been designing adventurers for my players at my home sessions and consistently refining my craft as a Dungeon Master. And now I want to bring this world that I have put much love and care into to you. I personally believe that a session is not complete without amazing music, soundtracks, and ambience; since I am a musician, I believe that music is an integral part of how stories are told. Throughout my entire life, I have been obsessed with and have studied history, languages, and cultures. I love using these studies to enhance and heighten the realism in my games, providing an experience that feels realistic while also fantastical. Whether you're brand new to D&D or you've been playing for years, my goal is for every session to feel like you're stepping into a fantasy novel where you're the heroes traversing a world that feels like your own. I want my table to be a place where everyone feels welcome, gets their moments to shine, and leaves you excited for the next adventure. I promise I'll put my heart and soul into any and all adventures you may join. Huzzah!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters begin at Level 1, with the intention of growing from relatively unknown adventurers into figures who can leave a lasting mark on Myridia. We’ll use the 2024 D&D rules as our primary ruleset. Official character options from D&D Beyond are welcome, and I encourage you to build a character you’re genuinely excited to play. If you have an unusual character concept or an option you’re unsure about, just reach out to me, and we can figure out how it fits into the campaign together. Experienced players: You are welcome to create your character ahead of time in D&D Beyond. I love characters with personal ambitions, unanswered questions, relationships, rivals, and reasons to explore the world. Your backstory does not need to be enormous—a few strong hooks are often more useful than several pages of history. I will work with you to connect those ideas naturally to Myridia as the campaign develops. New players: No previous D&D experience is required! You do not need to understand every rule or arrive with a finished character. I’m happy to walk you through D&D Beyond, explain your options in plain language, and help you create a character that matches the fantasy you want to play. Once your character is ready, I can import it from D&D Beyond directly into Foundry VTT, so you won’t need to rebuild your character sheet from scratch. Above all, make someone you want to spend a long campaign discovering. Myridia is designed to give your character room to grow, change, form relationships, pursue personal goals, and become part of the world's history.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Getting ready to play is simple, and no previous experience with Foundry VTT is required. Before your first session: Discord — Join the campaign Discord server. This will be our main hub for communication, announcements, scheduling, and talking between sessions. D&D Beyond — Create a free account and either build your character there or contact me if you'd like help making one. Foundry VTT — No purchase or installation is required. I will provide a link that opens directly in your web browser. Before your first session, I recommend opening the link once to make sure everything runs properly on your computer. Voice & Audio — Please have a working microphone and headphones/headset when possible. A webcam is not required. I also use Opus as my main music, SFX, and ambience software, so just like how you get a link for Foundry, you will get a link to Opus where you will be able to even play your own sound effects. Opus is also free to players who join via the link. Session Zero — Before the adventure begins, we'll establish expectations, introduce characters, discuss safety tools, answer rules questions, and make sure everyone is comfortable with the campaign and one another. If you're unfamiliar with D&D, Foundry, or D&D Beyond, don't worry about learning everything beforehand. I'll help you get set up and teach the game as we play. Veteran players can arrive ready to dive into character development, exploration, tactical combat, and the deeper mysteries of Myridia. New players can arrive ready to learn. Either way, just bring a character you're excited about and a willingness to discover what lies beyond the history Myridia remembers.

What Elaren brings to the table

I aim to provide an immersive, cinematic experience through character voices, curated music, ambience, sound effects, artwork, and visual references for the locations, NPCs, creatures, and discoveries you encounter throughout Myridia. Sessions are played through Foundry VTT, featuring interactive battle maps with dynamic lighting, walls, environmental effects, and other tools designed to make exploration and combat feel like part of a living world. Many of the maps used throughout the campaign are created and customized by me specifically for the adventures your party pursues. Combat can be gritty and descriptive. Swords bite, armor buckles, spells leave their mark, and powerful creatures should feel genuinely dangerous. At the same time, combat isn't only about reducing hit points—creative tactics, teamwork, clever use of the environment, and understanding your abilities are encouraged. I generally prefer to play close to the Rules as Written, giving players the opportunity to learn their characters and use the rules to their advantage. However, when an unusual situation arises, I prioritize consistent rulings, player creativity, and memorable storytelling over allowing the game to grind to a halt over a technicality. Most importantly, your characters belong in Myridia. Their ambitions, relationships, backstories, successes, and failures can become part of the ongoing campaign. The world will respond to what your party does, and the consequences of your decisions may follow you far beyond the adventure where they began.

Homebrew rules

I keep house rules relatively light so that players familiar with the 2024 D&D rules can generally expect their abilities to work as written. Any additional house rules will be clearly communicated before they affect play. 🧪 Potions — Bonus Action You may drink a potion yourself as a Bonus Action. Administering a potion to another creature requires an Action. ❤️ Healing Potions — Incremental Consumption Standard healing potions use a fixed healing pool rather than rolling for healing. For example, a Potion of Healing normally restores 2d4 + 2 HP. At my table, the potion instead contains 10 HP of healing. You don't have to consume the entire potion at once. If you are missing 6 HP, you can drink enough to restore 6 HP, leaving 4 HP of healing in the bottle for later. Remaining healing is tracked until the potion is completely consumed.

Safety

How Elaren creates a safe table

Myridia is an epic fantasy setting with grim and occasionally dark themes, but player comfort always comes before the story. Before play, we will establish Lines & Veils (anonymously) as a group. Lines are subjects that will not appear in the game, while Veils are subjects that may exist within the world but will remain off-screen or be handled without graphic detail. Players are always welcome to communicate additional boundaries privately with me at any point during the campaign. During sessions, I use a simple Green / Yellow / Red system: 🟢 Green — Everything is good. Keep going. 🟡 Yellow — Reduce the intensity, change direction, or move past the current content. 🔴 Red — Stop the scene. We will immediately move away from the subject. Players never need to justify why something makes them uncomfortable. These tools can be communicated verbally or through private message. Because this is a long-term campaign, safety is an ongoing conversation rather than something established only during Session 0. Boundaries can change, and players can speak with me privately between sessions whenever necessary. After particularly intense sessions or scenes, I'll also make time for the group to decompress, discuss the session, and check in before we wrap up. The goal is to create a world that can feel dangerous, unsettling, and emotionally intense without making the table itself feel unsafe.
