About the adventure

This is a custom and original adventure! You will solve mysteries, embark on quests, and encounter a wide variety of characters, locations and monsters. This adventure welcomes newer players and veterans alike. This campaign begins at 3rd level so some knowledge of character creation is an asset but if you require guidance then we can go through the rules and flow of the game together as we delve into this story. The goal is to ensure that everyone is comfortable, enjoying themselves and ultimately run the campaign to completion. All you need is your imagination and let it run wild! This campaign will have a mix of combat, roleplay, exploration, and group decision-making. There are many battles, moments to roleplay with townsfolk and other characters, and opportunities to totally fly off the rails! So come along and join this unique and strange adventure!

About me

Hello, my name is Stephen. I have been actively GM-ing for about 8 years and mostly play D&D 5e. I have played most of the other D&D editions and love playing any board/card game. I regularly host D&D sessions with my friends and have created a realm and Discord server that is continuously evolving with each session. I enjoy teaching new players the ropes of D&D and watching players get hooked and fall in love with the roleplaying, the dice rolling, and the community it can create. I love to build, create, and indulge my player's crazy ideas (Rule of Cool all the way!). My sessions usually aim to be a 50/50 balance of combat and roleplay, but I adjust based on the player's preferences. My goal is to give any new players a platform to dip their toes, play the game, have epic moments, and make mistakes. I am LGBTQIA2+ friendly and aim to deliver an inclusive platform where everyone can have the opportunity to play. I look forward to meeting new players, watching them grow, and gain some inspiration from them in the process.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players will create 3rd level characters and ability scores will be rolled 4d6 drop the lowest. Characters will be created in accordance to the 5.5e (2024) ruleset. Have your characters ready for session zero where we will go over house rules, character introductions, and start Chapter 1.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players should have accounts on Discord to access their party's server where the party can ask questions and communicate. Roll20 to access the battle maps so they can see a visual representation of locations and encounters.

What Stephen brings to the table

I do a lot of voices and vocal sound effects. I mostly follow Rules as Written but will defer to the Rule of Cool (a lot) whenever a player suggests doing something objectively awesome! There will be an even mix of roleplay and combat, the dice will ultimately determine how heated a battle or conversation will become! Death will always be a possibility and if the dice decide that it is a character's time then the dice will have spoken!

Homebrew rules

A House Rules document will be provided in the Discord server with all the rules that will be used. Some homebrew rules used in this campaign are: -Drinking a potion is a bonus action, feeding another character a potion is an action -Critical Hits on a weapon attack roll are calculated by rolling the damage dice and then adding the maximum value that can be rolled. Making critical hits more devastating and meaningful. (Short sword would do: 1d6 + Str or Dex + max possible roll [6]) -Critical Hits on a spell attack or critical fails on a spell save are calculated the same way except add HALF the maximum value that can be rolled. (Fireball - Critical failure on save the creature will take 8d6 + half the max [24]) -When using the HELP action, you must be proficient in the skill being used.

Safety

How Stephen creates a safe table

These will be discussed in our session 0. I will be posting a Consent Checklist in the party's Discord server so I know what topics to avoid and what I can include. Take breaks when you feel you need to. After each session we will take about 5-10 minutes to debrief, see how everyone is doing, and answer any questions you may have! If there is ever an issue with me, another player, theme or content, I am always willing to have a discussion to de-escalate an issue or to change how something is being delivered so the players can be as comfortable as possible while still enjoying the adventure!
