About the adventure
“Perhaps you’d be interested in a job that might be, shall we say, financially rewarding for you? I represent an individual who wishes to remain anonymous, to preserve their privacy. This person would like to engage you to find an ancient Netherese artifact, lost in a fallen flying city in the far north. The city was known as Yakkor and plummeted into a glacier when the Empire fell after Karsus’s Folly.” “Speaking of which, that old boy was quite arrogant, thinking he could…well, that’s a story for another day…” “I can provide you a map to the glacier field where the fallen city is located. I assure you that the journey and the exploration of the city will be quite dangerous, and thus a test of your mettle? Whether you’re worthy of being minor heroes?” -------- This is a one-shot adventure for a party of level 5 characters, set in the frigid north of the the Forgotten Realms. The adventure will have a mix of exploration, combat and social interactions as the party explores an icy landscape.

Meet the Game Master

About me
Hi there! I’m Scott, and I’m a game master located in California. I love jointly creating compelling storylines with my players in our campaigns. In fact, most of my favorite memories in gaming are when my players do something completely unexpected and push the story in a direction that I (and my NPCs!) had never foreseen. I also enjoy helping players learn how to play D&D 5e (many of my one shots have been for new players). I’ve been a GM for over 10 years, in two different stints: most recently over the past 6 years running three long term campaigns and numerous one shots for D&D 5e, and previously when I was a teenager GMing AD&D. I hope you join me in one of my games!

Creating your character
Please use the point buy method to create your character before our one-shot session. PCs should be level 5, with one common and one uncommon magic item for each PC. We will assume that the PCs are outfitted with cold weather gear, climbing gear and rope, as well as two common healing potions per PC, so feel free to add those to your inventory. Any class/sub-class combinations in official D&D books are acceptable.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
- Create your PCs on D&D Beyond if possible - Create a free account on Roll20 - GM will provide a link for the game on Roll20 - Beyond20 Chrome extension installation is very useful to send D&D Beyond rolls directly to Roll20 (https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/gnblbpbepfbfmoobegdogkglpbhcjofh?utm_source=item-share-cb)
What Scott brings to the table
We'll create fast-paced exploration and combat scenarios in this game, with the opportunity to do some role-playing within the party and with some NPCs that are encountered. I'll provide ambient music to set the mood and will do some character voices for some of the NPCs. Generally I stick to RAW for one-shots, but if the situation will be made more fun and entertaining by deviating from RAW, I'll all for it!

How Scott creates a safe table
Given this is a one-shot, we'll do a quick Session Zero either at the start of the session, or via email prior to the session to outline boundaries and objectives that players want to establish for the game session. X, N and O's will be messaged in the game.
