About the adventure

ATTENTION, CRAWLERS! Look at you. Just a moment ago, you were "epic heroes" of the Forgotten Realms, polishing your precious little swords and praying to your useless little gods. Well, I have some bad news, chumps. Lord Ao just got a corporate buyout. Faerûn as you know it has been violently, beautifully collapsed into a multi-layered, Primal-controlled, intergalactic reality television deathmatch! That's right, you’re in the system now. Your fancy backstories? Trash. Your legendary gear? Vaporized. You’ve been stripped down to your bare essentials, and if you want to survive Floor 1, you’re going to have to re-register at a glowing holographic kiosk like the desperate little packages you are. The viewers in the universe are bored, and they want blood. You will be crawling through classic D&D locations, but they've been beautifully warped by my twisted, gamified logic. Monsters aren't just angry anymore—they have stat blocks, corporate sponsors, and a burning desire to watch you pop like a wet balloon. And for those of you who care about the "lore"—oh, you're going to love this. Major milestones on the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, 15th, and 18th floors will feature the literal, agonizing 3rd Sundering of the Gods. You get to watch the divine pantheon break apart as the Tables of Fate are shattered in real-time for the amusement of the fans! Isn't that fun? SYSTEM CONFIGURATION & TECHNICAL SPECS: The System: We are playing strictly with the official, standalone Dungeon Crawler Carl TTRPG system. No 5e engine, no clunky patchwork, and zero homebrew conversions—just pure, unfiltered, high-octane mechanics engineered specifically for surviving the dungeon. Expect lethal combat stakes, chaotic inventory management, absurd hazards, and wild loot tables right out of the gate. The Celestial Box Protocol: As an official Celestial Box owner, I am running this crawl with the full, definitive standalone package ready on day one. While our overarching campaign story collides head-on with the divine fallout of the Third Sundering, every single roll, stat block, and crawl mechanic is powered entirely by the official DCC TTRPG.

About me

I have had 21 years of experience with Tabletop Role Playing games (TTRP), 16 of which I have been a Dungeon Master (DM). I have been creating my own content for years, but I also use official Dungeons & Dragons publications for my stories. I flexibly cater my playstyle to my group, customizing each campaign to ensure each new adventure is unique. I prioritize the “rule of cool” to make all players feel like heroes and further enhance their experience. I own both D&D 5th edition source material, as well as Roll20 content, giving my players an array of material to choose from.

Character creation

Creating your character

Go all out. Dream up a classic, deeply rooted Forgotten Realms hero. Give them a rich backstory, distinct bonds, powerful motivations, and a clear place in the world. The sky is the limit—whether you are a Harper agent, a Red Wizard defector, or a proud knight of Baldur's Gate. Note: Pack your emotional bags, because you won't be playing with that specific character sheet for long. The collapse will strip you down to your bare essentials. However, that backstory, your character's personality, and their knowledge of Faerûn will be the only things keeping them sane when the system boots up. Create a hero you want to see broken down and rebuilt from scratch.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Required Reading: All players must read (or listen to) at least Book 1 of the Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinniman. You need to understand the tone, the dark humor, the absolute unfairness of the AI, and the survival mindset required for a world dungeon crawl. If you don't know what a safe room kiosk is, you're going to die on Floor 1.

What Branden The Bard brings to the table

DM Provisions: The Dungeon Master will provide everything required to run this meat-grinder of an adventure. This includes all modified stat blocks, custom homebrew tables, digital VTT maps, environmental hazards, and the systemized loot tables. Just bring your dice, your character concepts, and a thick skin.

Homebrew rules

We are diving straight into the official standalone Dungeon Crawler Carl TTRPG engine from the very start. Because you are pioneering this brutal dungeon crawl on the true standalone system from day one, all players in these launch games will have guaranteed first-priority seating as our campaign advances into deeper floors, deadlier boss encounters, and persistent living-world events. Grab your gear, check your inventory, and try not to die on Floor 1.
