About the adventure
Stonetop is a hearth-fantasy village of about three hundred souls, perched on a bluff near the edge of the known world. There are no kings or grand armies nearby, and the nearest cities lie far to the south. Here, a close-knit community shelters around an ancient standing stone that lightning strikes again and again. The Forest Folk disappeared ten years ago. The Fae of the Great Wood are fickle and dangerous. Everyone knows that evil dwells in deep water. In this iron-age world, magic is uncommon, difficult, and never entirely safe. This is a story we will build together. You will not play wandering adventurers passing through, but local heroes with families, responsibilities, rivals, debts, and dreams. During our first session, we will create your characters and our group's version of Stonetop together. Depending on your playbook, your choices may define local traditions, important neighbors, past threats, rivalries, mysteries, and pieces of the wider world. Those answers will become part of the campaign and shape what happens next. Stonetop is a fiction-first game descended from Dungeon World. When your actions trigger a move, you usually roll 2d6 plus a stat. A 10 or higher generally brings a strong result, a 7 to 9 brings complications or difficult choices, and a 6 or lower usually grants XP and lets the GM make a hard move, unless the move says otherwise. Combat is driven by the fiction rather than turns or initiative, using moves such as Clash, Let Fly, Defend, and Defy Danger. Between expeditions, we return home and see how the village responds, changes, and endures the passing seasons. The stakes are personal: what are you willing to risk for the people you love? Character creation and rules guidance will happen step by step, at a comfortable pace, and I will maintain the digital character sheets between sessions. You can focus on your character, your choices, and the story we create together.

Creating your character
We will create your heroes and our version of Stonetop together during our first session, which serves as both Session Zero and the game's collaborative character-and-village creation session. There is no character-creation homework and no need to complete a sheet alone. You will choose one of Stonetop's nine playbooks. The Fox is clever, quick, charming, and willing to fight dirty. The Ranger is a resourceful guide and deadly hunter. The Heavy is the village's own violent champion, brave but potentially a liability. The Judge settles disputes, keeps the Chronicle, and stands against chaos. The Would-Be Hero is afraid, angry, and in over their head, but full of potential. The Blessed is a nature priest who speaks to spirits and beasts. The Marshal leads the village militia and a crew of followers. The Lightbearer invokes divine power through flame and serves as a beacon against darkness. The Seeker collects lost lore and dangerous power. We will go through every choice together. Depending on your playbook, your answers may establish local gods and traditions, personal burdens, important neighbors, past dangers, rivals, mysteries, and parts of the wider world. I will explain each option in plain language and help you choose the playbook and mechanics that best support the story you want to explore. I will also maintain your digital character sheet between sessions, including routine updates and bookkeeping, so you can focus on playing your character.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Getting ready is easy and low-pressure: 1. Make sure you have a working microphone and stable internet. A headset helps. 2. Create a free Discord account if you don't have one, and join the server I'll share. 3. No need to buy or read anything - I'll provide the rules, the playbook overviews, and your character sheet. 4. Optionally, glance at the Stonetop Setting Overview I'll send you (a short, friendly read). It's completely optional and I'll summarize it live anyway. 5. Tell me about any accessibility needs, scheduling constraints, or topics you'd like handled gently, and we'll plan around them from day one. We begin with a relaxed Session Zero where we'll meet, set expectations, discuss content, and start building your heroes together. After that, we launch into your first expedition. Just come ready to tell me what kind of hero sounds exciting, and I'll take care of the rest.
What DM Yan brings to the table
I prepare everything so you can simply show up and play: - A ready-to-run digital tabletop (Foundry VTT) with your character sheet maintained for you between sessions. - A running chronicle of everything that happens, so the story and your choices are never lost. - The full Stonetop rule set in plain-language reference, so you never need to memorize rules. - Session-by-session pacing, recaps, and gentle guidance through every game mechanic. - Customized accessibility: tell me what makes the game easier for you, and I'll adapt - larger text, voice-only play, read-aloud of any written material, extra time, whatever you need. Nothing is chore; this is your game at your comfort. You'll need a working microphone, a stable internet connection, a free Discord account, and a device that can join a voice call (Foundry can be used on a browser). No prior experience with Stonetop or any story game is required - I'm happy to teach the system from scratch. If character or reading support would help you, just say so; that's exactly what I'm here for.

Safety
How DM Yan creates a safe table
Your comfort and safety come first. This is a collaborative, co-created table and I take care seriously. Before we start, we'll run a proper Session Zero where we agree on tone, set Lines and Veils, and note anything anyone wants excluded or handled gently. We use the X-Card (anyone can veto a moment with no questions asked), free pause-and-check timeouts, and open communication throughout. Content is agreed together and can be adjusted at any time - if something bothers you, we fix the fiction, check in, and move forward. Stonetop by default touches rough themes: graphic violence, families in danger, bigotry, mind control and possession, personal corruption, and the threat of starvation. We'll talk through all of this together upfront and make clear choices about what we want in our game. I will never surprise you with content we haven't agreed to. We'll also check in after sessions, especially after emotionally heavy ones, and we'll schedule breaks. This is a safe space for everyone, and I welcome players of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities.
