About the adventure
Beyond the familiar reaches of the Pact Worlds lies the Vast—an immense frontier of uncharted systems, alien worlds, forgotten ruins, and mysteries waiting to be discovered. You are part of an expedition sent far beyond known space with an ambitious mission: explore a new star system, establish a colony, and build a future among the stars. This campaign uses Starfinder 2nd Edition to tell a story that's about more than traveling from one adventure to the next. Your characters are pioneers charged with exploring Weydana-1, developing their Charter, and transforming a remote foothold into a thriving new home. You'll venture across an untamed world, contend with the challenges of life on the frontier, and interact with other Charters pursuing their own visions for the planet's future. As your settlement grows and the unexplored reaches of Weydana-1 are revealed, you'll gradually uncover signs that something far more dangerous may be lurking behind the challenges facing this new frontier. Horizons of the Vast is an Adventure Path with a strong emphasis on exploration, discovery, roleplay, and player choice, while still featuring plenty of tactical combat and classic science-fantasy adventure. Expect a campaign where uncovering what lies over the next horizon can be just as important as defeating the creature waiting there. The story offers plenty of opportunities to develop your character beyond their combat abilities, form relationships with NPCs, and become invested in the community you're helping create. This game is ideal for players who enjoy open exploration, character-driven roleplay, tactical encounters, science-fantasy, and the feeling of building something that matters. You don't need to be a Starfinder veteran to join—the campaign is welcoming to players learning Starfinder 2e, while experienced Pathfinder 2e and Starfinder players will find plenty of familiar mechanics and opportunities to dig deeper into their characters. Bring your curiosity, your sense of adventure, and a character ready to leave civilization behind.

About me
I've been DMing and playing for 30+ years. The first game I ever learned to play was a gamed called Bushido, and the first system I learned to run was L5R 1e, followed by AD&D 2e. I continued through with 3e and while I have ran multiple other systems, D&D was always my "home" system. I want to provide as much visual and audio immersion as I can, but I'm not an artistic person. VTT's are perfect for me to provide the kind of visual experience I want and I have found that Foundry has been the best suited to do so for me thus far. I came to enjoy running Pathfinder 2e a lot a few years ago. I stepped away from it and chose to run 5e out of convenience and at the time, my group wasn't enjoying PF2e. I've recently come back to it, and it's been a blast. It is now my primary system, and I am also enjoying working with the Starfinder 2e playtest material.

Creating your character
Characters will be made on your own. If you are new to the Setting and/or System, I am more than happy to assist you. I have my players use Pathbuilder2e to make characters. It is a free service, though you can pay ~$6 for it, which is well worth it. It's best for designing your character as well as getting it easily to me to upload into the VTT. I do have some restrictions as to Ancestries allowed, and I have some House Rules, which i have listed below.
Envoy (Charter Liason) Mechanic (Science Officer, Medic) Operative (Security Officer, Skirmisher)
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a Discord account. I host the server myself, so there is no other site you need to register with. I will provide a link that you'll use to connect via a browser. I do not recommend using Opera nor Firefox, as they tend to have a lot of issues with Foundry.
What Nick brings to the table
I will provide beautiful maps, ambient music/sounds for immersion, as well as custom token frames for characters. SF2e is a system that has its rules locked in so typically there isn't reason to have to go outside of RAW even when a player is looking to do something "cool." The way the Charter is handled, is similar to Kingmaker, in which we do turns of developing it. you'll earn Resources and can construct buildings to give you access to various services. I do not handle this during our sessions. We do this via a discord channel in-between sessions, so as to not take up our session time. When time progresses in game to the point when a turn will happen, then I implement the results of that Charter Turn and we move on.
Homebrew rules
• Ancestries: Dwarf, Elf, and Goblin are allowed from PF2e Player Core. I will review ancestries from Galaxy Guide, but I like to keep ancestries to the less "weird" ones. Borathu, for example, are not allowed. • I use Gradual Ability Boost as a variant rule, but no others (ie no Free Archetype or Ancestry Paragon). I am doing something different with starting gear. I also have some restrictions with Backgrounds based on the Role your character has for the Charter. I have those presented in my Discord and you'll be able to look more about them there. The intention here, is to help the players' characters be made to appropriately fit being Administrators of a Charter.

Safety
How Nick creates a safe table
As the DM, you can reach out to me with concerns. Be it something I've done, or something perhaps another player has done. In the case of it being Player to Player, depending on the concern I may say that the two of you should have a conversation or I will have the conversation. I always welcome feedback. If you feel something is wrong, unfun, i've done something to upset you, etc.. I'd much rather you talk me so we can work it out than lead to a player leaving under bad feelings. I do try to take a break midway through the session, but players are always welcome to step away if need be. I have a module that sends a message to the chat for both when you leave and when you come back.
