About the adventure

A century ago, the God-King betrayed the Pantheon, unleashing the Umbra upon the Halcyon Domain. The land was poisoned. Cities fell. The wilds became hunting grounds for dreadful monstrosities: beasts and people twisted into grotesque, feral things by the spreading darkness. Now, the survivors cling to the Sacred Pyres. These enchanted fires are the last bastions of hope, pushing back the Umbra and allowing small communities to survive in a world that would otherwise consume them. Every village depends upon them. Every flame must be fed. And that's where you come in. You are a Pyrelighter. Pyrelighters are adventurers who brave the darkness beyond the safety of the Pyres. You descend into the ruins of forgotten cities, explore abandoned temples and dangerous delves, recover blessed branches and other relics, and carry them across the wilds to the communities that desperately need them. You are not heroes because you are fearless. You are heroes because you go anyway. Pyrelighters come from every corner of the Halcyon Domain. Some hail from settlements that no longer exist. Others come from Amber Reach, or even from lands beyond the Idol Hollows. No one knows who first created the Pyrelighters, or why. Until now. It begins with an ordinary stone. When you touch it, a voice speaks directly into your mind, giving you a single destination: The Cathedral of the Ashen Seraphim. Why have you been summoned? Who or what is calling you? And what awaits you in a cathedral that has been lost to the Umbra for a century? The Pyres are fading. The wilds are waiting. Will you answer the call? 🌑 🎵 🎭🎤 🌈 ⚔️ Dark Fantasy, Themed Music, Meaningful Roleplay, Distinctive Character Voices, Inclusive Themes, and Challenging Combat

About me

As an active member of online roleplay communities for over two decades, I have experienced nearly everything and now find the most joy in sharing those experiences with others. Science fiction (Cyberpunk) and space opera (Star Wars) have been my primary focus, but I do enjoy a good trip down fantasy lane (Conan, Dungeons & Dragons). I've been in roleplay spaces that have used many homebrewed systems (even making them up myself on occasion) and existing published systems like D&D 5e, Star Wars Saga Edition, SW5e, and Kids on Bikes, but by far, my favorite systems are skill-based systems like the original Star Wars Roleplaying game (D6). My tables tend to focus on creating compelling stories that allow for a wide range of emotion and depth. I believe that the biggest victories honor the characters by allowing them to lose with grace and triumph with strength. But a constantly solemn table is the pits, so please, bring your sense of humor with you to my table because I like to err toward what is funniest. I have worked in media for decades, so coming to my table, you'll see images, animation, and maps that you won't see anywhere else. One of those media jobs was covering Star Wars: The Old Republic for years, and before that, I helped found one of the largest Star Wars roleplay forums. In that setting, I bring adventures like no other. When it comes down to it, I am a theatre kid who enjoys telling collaborative stories and helping others explore their creativity.

Character creation

Creating your character

Prior to Session 0, I will have a one-on-one discussion with each player about their character and how they will fit in the current setting. The idea is to discuss what you are looking for, what is most intriguing and fun for you, and how best to get there. Besides the one-on-one session, I will be available on Discord to answer any questions you might have. If you really want to get a head start on character creation, head over to Demiplane to read over the Age of Umbra campaign frame and maybe even create a character. https://app.demiplane.com/nexus/daggerheart (We are using Foundry for the actual game, Demiplane's tools are very well made for character creation.)

What to expect

Preparing for the session

The only account requirement will be a Discord account and the ability to use a microphone. A web camera is encouraged, but not required. I use Foundry VTT on a local server to run the game, so as long as you have an internet browser like Chrome or Firefox, you will be able to run the game.

What Shaddoe brings to the table

->Basics to expect from me: • An environment to explore storylines that challenge and engage you in something meaningful. • An LGBTQIA+ safe environment with respect for who you are as a person and the encouragement to keep being you. • Respect for your time. We all have busy lives outside the game. I will respect that by being on time and purposeful in each session. • Respect for your neurodivergency. We are not all built the same, and it's those differences that make humans so amazing. • Respect for your energy. Whatever energy you put into the game, expect the same and more from me. More deeply, you can expect me to... ->Bring a deep and immersive story. I've been roleplaying in the Star Wars universe for literal decades. I love the classic universe with its rich setting as a foundation for an open world for you to explore. NPCs will have their own unique motivations and drives. You might also find me performing unique voices for each character. -> Allow you to tell your story. I have an idea where things might go, but the ultimate choice is up to you. We are co-writers here. I remain flexible to the whims of the player characters and encourage everyone at the table to participate in developing the story. In fact, it will not be unheard of for me to ask a player to describe the setting or what the group finds when they reach the goal. ->Let the dice facilitate the story. I am not a rules lawyer. I believe the rules of the game are there to support the story we are telling, not completely block it. That said, I believe the dice rolls to be sacred, and the Rule of Cool should be rare and meaningful. ->Bring you a safe environment. I have consent forms, lines-and-veils sheets, and rules for Discord and the table that are strictly enforced for player comfort. Everyone should feel safe in my spaces, so I have zero tolerance for harassment or disruptive behavior.

Homebrew rules

In the Age of Umbra setting, PCs can be scarred, which costs them a hope. However, at my table, scars will also gain you bonuses to certain rolls, depending on class and/or ancestry.

How Shaddoe creates a safe table

->Harassment and disruptive behavior will not be tolerated at my table nor in my Discord.<- -> Before Session 0, each player will fill out a consent sheet and a lines-and-veils document. ->I will meet with each player prior to Session 0 to make sure that my table will give them what they are looking for. ->Session 0 will reiterate the agreed-upon rules and make sure that everyone is on board with the lines and veils of the other players. ->For a half-hour before the session, I have time that I call Roll For Initiative, where we can discuss above-the-table anything that the players would like. The goal is to get to know the players as people outside their characters, encouraging trust and familiarity. ->For a half-hour after the session, I have a time I call A Short Rest. This is an above-the-table time for players to discuss what they liked, disliked, and what they are looking forward to next time. Again, this will hopefully encourage trust and familiarity with each other and me as a GM.
