About the adventure
New captain. New crew. New ship. This is your chance for a fresh start and by thunder you aren't going to let it slip through your fingers! The sea is calling your name, and the tide waits for no one! * * * This is a Swashbuckling Dungeons & Dragons 5e (2024) campaign inspired by the sense of adventure and humor from seafaring films like The Pirates of the Caribbean, Treasure Island, and Kidnapped—but don't worry if you haven't seen those movies! This game is like any other D&D game using the standard classes, species, and rules from the 2024 books as well as includes pirate-era firearms. All you need is a love of action, adventure, and humor set in a pirate's tale of searching for lost treasures! In fact, this is a great campaign for Beginner players! It starts at level 1 and in just 12 sessions gets you to level 7 with the option to continue the story! Alongside your crew, you'll be exploring uncharted islands, solving puzzles, fighting for your life against creatures most strange and, of course, will be searching for the treasure! The treasure that isn't cursed. Right? Because there definitely is a treasure that's cursed and we're not touching that one...right? More details on how I like to run fun and engaging games to help folks unwind after a long day is available on my GM profile. So what are you waiting for? Join the crew! We sail with the tide, mateys!

About me
Hi there! I’m Betsy :) This is my sixth year as a D&D 5e GM. I love running relaxed games with a heroic action/adventure tone that leaves room for comedy and character growth. (My games probably aren't for you if you're looking for traditional mega-dungeons, hex crawls or grimdark genres.) Pirates of the Caribbean, The Mummy, and Inuyasha are guiding inspirations for me: straight forward plots full of thrills and laughs. My goal is for everyone to leave the table with fond memories of our adventures together and have excitement for the next one. :)

Creating your character
We will create characters together in Session 0 using Point Buy for Ability Scores.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Before we play, please prepare: • A discord account • A suitable microphone for voice chat—it's hard to play if no one can hear you • A free Roll20 account for viewing maps and character sheets **Please note: players in the past have found Roll20 difficult to use with a laptop trackpad as there are some things that require 'click and drag' which is easier to do with a physical mouse.** (Optional) • A webcamera • A physical set of polyhedral dice to roll instead of using virtual dice—Yes, at this table we roll dice without a camera!
What Betsy brings to the table
I use performative—often silly—voices for NPCs and will be using a webcamera, but you don't have to. I provide maps for exploration and tactical combat. Some quick recaps from my profile's GM style section: • I describe new scenes with enough details to be immersive, but I keep it brief so that players have more time to play! • I openly state the consequences of a low result *before* a risky roll is made. • My goal is for players to be able to unwind, relax, and have fun using their imagination to create fun (and funny!) stories together.
Homebrew rules
- Falling to 0 HP results in a lasting scar. This could be physical one or a metaphysical one to acknowledge the near-death experience. - Spell components are required if your spellcasting focus becomes lost or damaged - While Revivify is possible, 300gp diamonds are very rare. You'd have to find that treasure first!
