About the adventure
You are a hero! Called from your home to aid your liege lord, Sir Kedrick of the Great Wood. Praised by your people for the great deeds you have done. Expected to perform even greater deeds in the service of king and country. After the already-long winter the people need someone to place their hope in. You are that someone. The midwinter frost has set in. Bones are chilled, breath is frozen, and the soil is hard as rock. Stores of grain are rationed out, boar and deer are hunted in the Great Wood, fishing holes are cut through the thick ice on Holdmar's many lakes. But there is yet no sign of spring. Midwinter Moon is a high fantasy campaign focused on narrative themes of loss, revenge, and redemption. You will begin play as low-level local heroes brought together to aid Sir Kedrick. As the game progresses we will explore the industrious land of Holdmar, delve into the pits of Rint, and wander through the Great Wood in search of danger.

About me
I'm a long-time GM and player of all kinds of tabletop games. For the past 20+ years I've enjoyed telling stories with friends. From poignant narrative moments to daring rescues to terrifying fights. I love trying new genres and systems, but what really pulls me back into role-playing again and again is the community aspect. Spending time with people playing games we all love. Crafting stories and characters and sharing them with each other. Exploring worlds of imagination. Being surprised by dice rolls. All the things that make role-playing a unique form of entertainment and enrichment. I describe my GMing style as welcoming and fun-focused. We're all at the table to have a good time and I see GMing as a chance to help make that happen for my players. I enjoy building unique experiences for each player to give them a chance to shine in the game and challenging groups so they have to work together to overcome obstacles. When I'm not playing games I enjoy trying out new dishes in the kitchen, finding local restaurants, or taking my dog around the neighborhood.

What Michael brings to the table
My GMing style is fun-first and narrative-focused. I like to follow Rules as Written most of the time, but will slip into Rule of Cool territory as needed to improve game experience. Ultimately I want the players at my table to enjoy themselves and sometimes bending or reinterpreting a rule is the right way to make that happen. We play over Discord voice with ambient music available for those who enjoy it. Dice rolls will be made in Discord.
Homebrew rules
Critical hits only by named characters, not nameless enemies. Critical hits are max plus roll instead of two rolls. Fumbles on a double natural 1. Potions are a bonus action. Milestone leveling.

How Michael creates a safe table
My table is safe and inclusive for all. We start in session 0 by setting expectations and going over individual limits (either in the group or in private, whichever is most comfortable). In addition I ask players to fill out a simple survey covering what topics they want to avoid. After each session I stick around for a little while to chat and we can go over anything that comes up.
