About me

Hello! I go by Mxlpxl (he/him) online but feel free to call me Andrew. I've been playing TTRPGS since 2012 and primarily have been a Game Master during that time. The games that I’ve been enjoying since then are D&D 5 & 5.5, Daggerheart, and Fabula Ultima.Outside of running TTRPG tables I’m a middle school teacher in NYC.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will happen together during session zero, so no need to come in with a finished character. Just bring your ideas and excitement. You will be starting at level 10, though we will eventually climb all the way to level 20 as the stakes escalate against Vecna himself. For stats, we will use standard point buy with 27 points. To give your character some extra flair, you will each receive one free feat of your choice along with one very rare magic item. Just run it by me for approval first. Any officially published D&D 5e content is on the table, whether you prefer the 2014 or 2024 rules, so feel free to pull from any source you like. When it comes to building your sheet, you can use D&D Beyond to create your character, or you can build it directly in Roll20, since I have all the resources unlocked there. For your avatar art, I will need an image to turn into a token. Great free options include HeroForge, where you can just screenshot your mini, or PlayMultiverse for animated avatars. Once your sheet and art are ready after session zero, send them both to me as a DM on Discord with a link to your character and your avatar image, and I will handle the rest.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before session zero, you will need a computer with a stable internet connection. Create a free Roll20 account and a free Discord account. Roll20 runs in your browser, so nothing to download. You can run Discord through your browser or download the app. A working microphone is required. Cameras are not required but highly encouraged for community building and as a safety tool to help check in with each other. Once your accounts are set up, join our Discord server and I will send the Roll20 link before we start.

What Mxlpxl brings to the table

I run my games through Roll20, where I display maps, tokens, images, and all the information you need to keep the weight off your imagination. Roll20 is fully integrated with D&D Beyond, so if you prefer building your character there, all your rolls will show up directly in the Roll20 game. Every session, I aim for a balance of immersive storytelling, tactical combat, and plenty of laughter with real world references sprinkled in. Through Roll20, I provide ambient music, combat tracks, and sound effects to bring each scene to life. I also enjoy doing voices for NPCs to help flesh out the world and make every character you meet feel distinct and memorable. On Discord, we also have a shared soundboard loaded with hilarious sounds like the poignant oof or vine boom that everyone can access for those perfect moments. Combat will be tactical and thought provoking, so bring your strategies, take your time, and collaborate with your team. After all, you are in the hells. I tend to embrace the Rule of Cool when it serves the story, but I also respect the integrity of Rules as Written to keep things challenging and fair.

Safety

How Mxlpxl creates a safe table

Your comfort and safety are just as important as the adventure. During session zero, we will discuss expectations and boundaries. I will share a Google Sheet with our Lines and Veils document, which everyone can edit anonymously to mark content they want avoided or handled off-screen. This document stays accessible so boundaries can be updated anytime. After each session, I check in with the group for debrief or aftercare. My goal is a table where everyone feels seen, heard, and safe.
