About the adventure

In Call of the Netherdeep, you will embark on a quest that will take you throughout Xorhas and beyond. You will be sent on an important quest to repair forgotten damage done by the Calamity hundreds of years ago. This will take place in Exandria, the world played in throught Campaingns 1 through 3 of Critical Role. I like to build the story with my players and for them to take ownership of their characters' outcomes. I like to have serious roleplay with real consequences for player actions. The gameplay will be a 60/40 split between roleplay and combat, respectively. I want players to feel like they can do anything they want in the world. I hope the bait that sends them down the main story's path works, but I am ready and excited for any divergence from that path. I will build custom encounters and activities outside of those outlined within the module. These custom encounters and activities will hopefully make the world feel like a sandbox experience. They will also tie in pieces of characters' backstories or incorporate something that the players may want for their characters. For example, if a player wants a particular magic item for their character (as long as it is not too powerful for their level), I will build a side quest to obtain that magical item. Additionally, maybe at one point, the party will run into one of the character's older siblings, and that sibling needs help with something. Death is a real threat in my games. If a character or NPC dies, it isn't easy to resurrect them. If a player absolutely wants their character resurrected, then I will build a side quest for the other players to go on to resurrect that character. Otherwise, any resurrection will be left up to the dice rolls.

About me

I learned roleplaying games from my camp counselor way back in 2014. I originally learned Pathfinder and took my learnings back from camp to start running games for my High School friends. In my first session, I accidentally party wiped my players in their first combat. Since then, I have learned and grown a lot over many campaigns. Now, when my player's character dies, it is dramatic and usually the consequence of many questionable actions. I started learning 5e after Pathfinder by avidly watching Critical Role and am currently running a D&D 5e game in the World of Exandria. I like to think my DM style has the roleplaying of Matt Mercer (worse vocal range), the rules following of Brennan Lee Mulligan, and just a splash of Aabria Iyengar's spontaneous player freedom (hopefully these references land with you). I love roleplaying games because they are a way for us to express ourselves without the fear of judgment that you may experience when doing so in the real world. A group of people can come together around a table or on a discord call to challenge, create, and play collaboratively. I love serving people, which is why I so eagerly took up DM'ing back in 2014 when I learned about roleplaying games. I hope to give people seeking fun, engaging, easygoing games the D&D experience they deserve.

Character creation

Creating your character

I will discuss with each player before the first session. I can talk through it on a call or keep it all over messages on Discord. I can take the rough idea of the character and build the character sheet myself, or the player can build their character sheet themselves, while I review it afterward. The campaign will be run on Roll20, so I can invite players to the campaign and allow them to build their own character on the website. I also would like a backstory of each character, so I can customize the campaign.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

-Create a Roll20 account and send me your username -Accept the invitation into my game -Create your character sheet (either with me on a Discord call or on your own, with me reviewing independently afterwards) -Send me the backstory and personality characteristics of your character -Fill out Lines or Veils you want established before we start play

What Bandifus brings to the table

-Everything you need to play the game will be provided to you via Roll20 -I do mild character voices for my NPC's -I mostly stick to Rules as Written, but I don't let them get in the way when, for example, a player tries using a spell in a creative way... The spell may say it can't be used in that way as written, but I usually allow a spellcasting ability check to see if it's successful.

Homebrew rules

-Drinking a potion is a bonus action; administering a potion is a full action -NPC's that are brought to zero hit points can't be healed by other NPC's, but they can be healed by other players. However, one full round after hitting zero hit points, they are dead and can't be healed

Safety

How Bandifus creates a safe table

-I will ask my players individually before the first session about any topics or themes that should be avoided but could be lightly referred to, and any that should be avoided at all costs. This will advise my Lines and Veils document that I will share with all of the players individually before the first session. -During sessions, you may privately message me on Discord X, N, or O and I will handle each accordingly. If it is an X, I will rewind and retcon things until all parties are comfortable. If it is N, I will divert the path we are heading down to avoid any triggers. If it is O, I will check in with everyone to see if we are okay continuing down the path we are on. -After sessions, I encourage players to send me Stars and Wishes - what did you love and what do you want or want more of.
