About the adventure

Join this Rookie Superhero team as they grow to become themselves and the new beacons of hope for a city who recently unban them!! A new agency in charge of care for "Outstanding Individuals" has taken the duty of finding possible new #ASSETS# and educate them, research them and INTEGRATE them into society. Join today! Introductory game to Masks: a New Gen. Very friendly for people who wish to try the system for the first time with or without experience on PbtA games. Masks is a game about young superheroes developing their identity so this campaign will encourage players and characters alike to explore concepts like identity, community and their place in them. My plan is to run 4 hour sessions every two weeks over Discord, but I'm open to the possibility of having to schedule an extra session if the players get really hooked in the drama or action!

About me

I'm Lan, but most people call me Panda! I'm 33 and I've been playing ttrpgs since I was 12. Most of that time we played D&D with my friends over various editions and eventually I started trying new systems, some years ago I came across Apokalypse World and the PbtA genre of games for which I have fallen totally in love with. So now I have quite a variety of games in my portfolio so to say. I've also been DMing for an Adventurer's League on a TableTop club for a year and I became the lore keeper of the league on Kanka and a moderator of the spaces, so I have some experience mediating conflicts and finding solutions in these public games. On a different note, I hope to find players willing to help me test stuff as I am working on game design as well, so I'm really exited to join a community that could help me learn even more about games and player perspectives.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will have a Session Zero type of meeting where we will pick playbooks (class based character sheets that are self explanatory about how to complete and play them), create characters and develop parts of the setting together, as PbtA games are more collaborative I want to show you all that from the get-go.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I have a personal discord server specifically created for OTTRPG which I will provide when preparations are ready, so I ask all players to have a Discord Account. Apart from that I personally recommend to have a Google Drive account to easily share documents or character sheets.

What Alan García Río brings to the table

I specialize in beginner-friendly games, and I know Masks being a narrative-heavy rpg can be confusing for many players coming from Epic Fantasy RPGs so I'm here not only as a GM but as a guide into these other types of games. I also draw inspiration from pulp and modern action a lot, so don't just expect you classic villain but maybe kaijus and other types of heroes that don't usually stand next to each other in the same narrative. I focus a lot on character feelings not only ambient mood and detailed descriptions.

Homebrew rules

PbtA games are usually very customisable and modular, so if the necessity arises we can develop some ourselves.

Safety

How Alan García Río creates a safe table

Session 0: The most important session as a group, to determine not only in game stuff, but to talk and discuss as a group if we need to be aware of triggering stuff, what kind of Wishes you have for the game, and what Topics to avoid each player may have. Basically we set stuff for various safety techniques like Veils, Lines, no-goes etc. Debriefing: I also like doing small introductions to the session, adventure, oneshot or campaign presenting possible conflicts, and warning about sensitive topics I may bring up to the table that may have not been named in the content warning of the general campaign. And of course if stuff comes up mid game, we can always draw an X take a break discuss what happened. Aftercare: in games like this, where characters and players are faced with stories about personal growth or trauma, with systems that supports Player against Player narratives and drama I believe that allocating 10 to 20 minutes to have a conversation about the game, whatever problems may have come out during play and how well are they feeling. Making sure they leave the drama with their Masks.
