About the adventure

💀 - Explore a dangerous mansion spoken only in legends and rumors. 🎭 - Meet denizens with their own agendas and goals. 📜 - Gain or lose reputation based on your actions, all tracked in a custom system. ✨ - Uncover ancient magic that spans across the fabric of reality. 👀 - Experience no Darkvision, low fantasy and gritty environments. We will be using the DnD 2024 rules! "We don't go to Raventree Manor. That's the story that everyone tells. A grim fascination whispered to children to keep them in line and warn them off the dangers of exploring abandoned ruins. The tales are all the same, a story told of looters trying to get the treasures left behind by the Corvinarus family—another about explorers trying to determine if the ruin is safe— still more about passers-by trying to shelter through the night. They all end the same. Everyone goes in, no one comes out." ------------------------------------ A House Divided is an adventure centered on House Corvinarus, a noble family brought low by ambition and betrayal. It is predicted to take between 15 and 20 weekly sessions (5 months or so), taking adventurers from levels 5 to 9. Anyone is welcome to join, beginners or experienced players! The adventure begins simply: a party of adventurers investigate an old manor house that has been abandoned for the last twenty years following the sudden and mysterious disappearance of its occupants. Within the grounds of the old estate, however, their exploration begins to take a turn. During session zero, we will establish your involvement with the elements of the adventure and what part of your backgrounds can be integrated in the plot. I will go over the mood, expectations, lines, veils and other safety tools. The party also has a chance to meet each other and maybe even connect their character backgrounds for a more cohesive group.

About me

Take a sneak peek at my games with this highlight compilation: https://youtu.be/JGthJQk8gVo I have been GMing since I was 14 years old. Me and my friends pooled some money to buy the Player's Handbook for D&D 3.0. Someone had to GM, I seemed to be the most excited about the game so I volunteered. The rest is history. Over the course of this twenty-something-year journey, I have played not only D&D, but other game systems like World of Darkness (Vampire), DCC, Pathfinder and, more recently, Five Torches Deep and Cypher System. Throughout the years, I have gained extensive experience conducting games both face-to-face and online, learning to adapt on the fly to the players’ ideas. I have learned to use a variety of techniques to create a sense of full immersion through storytelling. I have mastered the art of creating challenging tactical combat that will make you sweat. Overall, I believe in delivering all aspects of the game with balance and excellence. My preference lies within dark fantasy genre and roleplay-heavy games, often with faction-based conflicts and mystery plots, as well as Old-School style games. Official modules, third party campaigns or custom games — I can do it all. If you are interested in a game that I don’t currently have listed, please feel free to reach out to me and let me know what you would like to play. I always look forward to meeting new players and creating amazing, epic moments and stories we will never forget. At the end of the day, that’s what Tabletop RPGs are all about!

Character creation

Creating your character

You can create your character in two ways. - Make the character with me manually inside Foundry (about 10 minutes if you know what you want). 2 - Make your own character on DnD beyond or any other website of your choice, send me the link/ sheet and I'll put it in Foundry for you. ✨Campaign starting Level: 4 🔒Content allowed: background and class preferably from the Player's Handbook 2024. We can use legacy existing sub-classes from all existing books and settings, except for Twilight and Peace clerics or Gloomstalker rangers. Please use common sense and talk to me about it if making something too exotic. 👁️ Darkvision is REMOVED from all Background, Race or Class feature. No one has Darkvision except for some monsters. 🔒Multiclassing is discouraged, but you can do it. Just talk to me about your ideas as you level up. 📜Ability scores: Determined by Point Buy (27 points) 💪Feats are allowed 💖Hit Points: Take Average 🎒Initial Equipment: All of your Class and Background starting set, one Potion of Greater Healing, 500g to buy mundane equipment.

The current party

We plan to have a session zero on August 22nd. There is summer happening and many people are travelling or away. We want to make sure we will begin with a solid crew and not have to skip sessions due to absent players.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

✅A Discord account (free to create, web based) ✅PC or Laptop capable of handling audio and video for 3 hours. ✅ An Internet Browser (up to date): Chrome, Firefox or Opera are recommended. ✅ A good microphone and headset. ✅ A stable internet connection. ✅ A quiet place where you can focus without background noise.

What Carlos brings to the table

Foundry VTT license, hosted on a cloud (you open it on your internet browser), running very light and smooth while configured with an expansive set of modules, including spell animations, robust automation for combat and many other functionalities. Beautiful maps, set up with walls and dynamic lighting. Proper soundtracks to set the mood and beautiful art as handouts to inspire your imagination!

Homebrew rules

Overall guidelines: I try to keep house-rules minimum, or they are redundant, and we forget them. Usually I have a maximum of 3. After that, if I feel like introducing a new one, I have to remove an existing one. I usually don't introduce house-rules without talking to the group about it. 1 - Lingering Death Save failures All failed Death Saving throws carry over until a Long rest is completed. In addition, whenever a PC gets up from 0HP, they gain a failed Death Saving throw. If a character has 3 Death Saving throw failures and goes down to zero hit points, they are dead. Additionally, during a short rest, a PC can choose to spend 1 Hit Dice or more to remove a failed Death Save. 2 - Heroic short rest: The first Short Rest of the day only takes 10 minutes instead of 1 hour. Short rests are Limited to two per day. 3 - Legendary Resistance Punishment: Whenever a creature uses their Legendary resistance, the effort spent causes them to take 5 damage per spell level. If it's an ability or class feature, they take 15-20 damage (GM decides). This bypasses all resistances and immunities. The GM will describe how this happens narratively.

Safety

How Carlos creates a safe table

A House Divided contains some events or subject matter which may be uncomfortable. Like most 5th edition adventures, A House Divided contains combat encounters which depict sequences of violence. Additionally, the adventure includes certain events which portray body horror, cannibalism, death, familial and emotional abuse, supernatural horror, human experimentation, murder, kidnapping, mind control, ghostly possession, torture, and large spiders. I do my best to ensure that none of these topics are overly gratuitous in their presentation or needlessly gruesome in detail. The purpose of tabletop roleplaying games is to have fun experiencing a unique adventure and story together as a collaborative storytelling experience. We will be doing a session zero before beginning the adventure, and I can easily modify descriptions or scenarios as appropriate to avoid content that the party might be uncomfortable with. I the Tabletop RPG safety tool X-card by John Stavropoulos integrated on my Foundry setup. Anyone can say "Let's talk for a moment" or "I need a break" and we will stop, talk, and continue.
