About the adventure

The old world is gone. What's left are pockets of survivors clinging to the last light in a world the Umbra has mostly claimed. You'll play the Enduring: protectors, scavengers, healers, and fools holding a candle against the darkness. How will you protect those who depend on you? What will you do to help your community survive? Expect danger, loss, and hard choices, alongside the found-family warmth that makes surviving worth it. Daggerheart is built for collaborative, character-driven storytelling as much as tactical combat and exploration. We’ll be playing a full campaign starting at level 1, and perhaps you’ll survive all the way to level 10! Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. You need to take life one dark day at a time in the Age of Umbra, the campaign frame designed by Matt Mercer. Whether you’re new to Daggerheart or have been playing since it first came out, all experience levels are welcome here. You must be 18+ to join, however: this is a dark fantasy setting, and it’s not ideal for children.

Character creation

Creating your character

Our first session will cover character creation along with all of the other Session Zero material, including safety tools and some collaborative world-building. You're welcome to create your level 1 character ahead of time on Demiplane using the standard Daggerheart character creation rules, but please keep an open mind so you can be inspired by the ideas that come up in our first session. This is likely to be a combat-heavy survivalist campaign, so keep that in mind while building your character.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

There are a few things you'll want to have ready in time for our first session: Set Up Discord: We will use Discord for all of our audio and video chat. You will need both a free Discord account and to join our server. The server link will be provided after you book your spot in the game. Create Your Free Roll20 Account: We will use Roll20 as our virtual tabletop (VTT) for maps, tokens, and rolling dice. Please create a free account on their site. Roll20 Link: https://roll20.net/ Create Your Free Demiplane Account: We will use Daggerheart's official digital toolset on Demiplane to manage our character sheets. Please create a free account so you can access your hero. Demiplane Link: https://app.demiplane.com/nexus/daggerheart Check Your Hardware: A working microphone and headphones are required. Using speakers instead of headphones often causes disruptive echo for the group. That's all the prep you need! At the beginning of our session, I will help you link your Demiplane and Roll20 accounts and any other technical hitches. No other software, purchases, or prior knowledge of the rules are required.

What Clifton Lambert brings to the table

I'm a highly improvisational GM, and prefer not to lay out too many specific plots and scenes. I like to play to find out how the players shape the story with their choices, and how the dice find a way to tell a story of their own. Tactical combat, subterfuge and infiltrations, social encounters, chases and races, and political intrigue are all on the table. I'm a minimalist when it comes to using online tools such as Roll20 and Discord. Maps and tokens will be simple, and we won't waste time fiddling with some of the more complicated features. The real action happens through our conversation (and dice rolls), not on computer screens!

Homebrew rules

We'll be using Daggerheart rules, along with the Age of Umbra campaign frame. I have no significant house rules to declare, and they likely won't be necessary. This is a very flexible game system.

Safety

How Clifton Lambert creates a safe table

Safety is the highest priority! We'll discuss lines and veils in our first session, but the main rule is that safety comes first no matter what. If something comes up, we prioritize player safety and comfort over rules or the narrative. Whatever it is, we can roll things back or edit events if needed. Also, no bigotry or hate speech is tolerated. Everyone is welcome as long as they don't make others feel unwelcome. We're here to make friends and have a good time. Sometimes that can get intense, but as long as we all look out for each other, we'll have a great time.
