About the adventure

Experience the classic 5e module like never before, and a journey that will span across the entire north of Faerûn! From fetid swamps, dank and deep caves, to frigid mountains and scorching desserts, this adventure promises to take you all across the north of the Sword Coast and beyond. The Northern Frontier is only just recovering from a fearsome war, only to be embroiled in a brand new one; with a much larger and older foe—the dreaded Jotun. Face the Hill, Stone, Frost, Fire and Storm Giants all at once; and perhaps even something else, long-forgotten, hiding under the stone. Giants will not be the only foes you face in this adventure however, for the classic module has been heavily modified, with more quests, enemies, and friends than the original. Iconic and legendary allies from The Forgotten Realms universe have also been added to give the story that grand, interconnected feeling that the Forgotten Realms worlds are known so well for having. I have spent hundreds of hours rebuilding and redesigning the original Wizard's module. Down to random encounters, NPCs, and even the weather, nearly every moment of this campaign has been crafted and ensured to give you a unique and exciting experience. Though much may still be familiar to those who are already aware, there are countless of surprises in store for players who might have already played the classic in the past. All of the Roll20 maps and tokens from the module will be used, in addition to tons of personal made maps and tokens, by me, using Inkarnate and some other tools. Music and ambience will be ran nearly at all times through the R20 server as well. The sounds will be a mixture of personally made tracks, and free-use or purchased licenses. Character art for NPCs will either be official D&D art from WotC, or AI art generated and edited by myself. I also offer to generate art for my players if desired but they can use whatever they see fit for their characters. IMPORTANT: This is a BIG, grand adventure, with potentially endless hours of content. THIS IS NOT A SHORT GAME. The campaign is split into 4 Acts with each Act able to take as long as 30 sessions or more to complete. Despite the game's length, each Act is connected and placed in such a way that leaving or joining between acts is easy if changes need to be made. Your decisions matter! And everything you and your party decide may greatly impact the lives of your characters and the world around them. Secrets are hidden behind every corner; between hidden treasure, undiscovered dungeons, or slumbering entities—this world I present you with is rife with discovery and danger. And if your character perishes, then don't worry, there is usually a temple in a city, or a traveling healer somewhere, out in the world. Worst case scenario, always have that back-up ready. Now then, I will be honored if you share this journey with me. Let us embark on THE Dungeons & Dragons experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives!

About me

Hi! I'm Jelani! I also go by Jelly, or Jay! I've been in love with all things fantasy, sci-fi, horror, etc. my whole life, and love finding different ways to incorporate those ideas into my games. I intend to take my love of directing, telling stories, and D&D as far as I can, and keep most of my games fairly story-focused. My goal, is to weave you an experience you will take with you for the rest of your life; and I try to make sure every step the players make, even during combat, will have purpose. I am accustomed to casual games for newcomers, extreme challenges for veterans, and anything in between; all under 5e 2014 ruleset. I try to craft as much as I can personally, for each of my games, but have no issue using premade assets or AI when needed. I either pick out character & background art that I am allowed to use for my games or I generate it myself. All maps I use for my games are either free-use or I craft them personally; I do not AI generate my battle or dungeon maps. All music I use in my games are either free-use, a license that I own to use, or personally made by me; I do not use AI music. I am extremely transparent about my DM style and expectations moving forward; my #1 priority being that everyone is comfortable and accepted at my table. I exclusively run D&D 5e (2014) rule set at the moment, and am pretty strict on the rules. The rules I do bend however, I have listed out and am very clear on.

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created during session 0. This is so that the players can talk the process over with each other, and everyone can be comfortable with the party that they are putting together. If they are not finished by the end of the session then they will be easily finalized over the following week. I will be very clear about what sources can, and cannot be used for character creation; I even offer default backgrounds and pre-written stories custom-designed for the campaign if desired. It is important to know that I do not rush the process and will be 100% certain that everyone is prepared, and has what they need to succeed, before we start officially playing.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players must know how to work both Discord and Roll20. You will be invited to my private Discord server where everyone there is or has, played in my online games. If you are a bit new to the platforms, then that is more than okay; I simply do not want to lose too much playtime in explaining basic function of the tools we are using. A little bit of guidance or help is completely acceptable though.

What Jelani brings to the table

I am very into RaW (Rules as Written) with only a few exceptions. As such, I will provide several books, shared through the R20 compendium; this includes The Player's Handbook (2014) as well as several other Player Books. I voice many of my characters, provide visual aid through my personal webcam, use custom music to paint the perfect scene, and provide personally generated and edited art for several scenes and characters. I create all the character tokens that will be used on the R20 board, using a free online software. I also offer to AI generate character art for players if they so desire. Otherwise, I expect my players to provide me with some kind of art for me to use as a token.

Homebrew rules

I use very little homebrew for character class and abilities. I do use a couple of variant rules for the game itself: stacking advantage/disadvantage, climbing on large creatures, tumble, extra movement for diagonals, etc. All of which are gone over during Session 0 and can be reviewed at anytime during game. I also use bucklers, tower-shields, and some other custom items I've added here-or-there. But I do try very hard to keep player abilities true-to-form from the books. I alter monsters constantly to keep things fresh as well.

Safety

How Jelani creates a safe table

Lines and Veils are covered through direct messaging with Discord as soon as you join my game (no explanations needed). You will be completely anonymous to the other players when requesting these. In addition, they will be gone over at the start of session 0 or when a new player joins. I reference After Care by briefly ensuring my players feel safe and comfortable after each scene that feels a bit intense. I also make sure that my players know that they can speak to me at all times (before, during, or after game); they can talk to me about anything they need to.
