About the adventure

The world is full of memorable names and heroic adventurers, who fight dragons and shape the course of the realms. You are not one of those. You are just starting out and find yourselves out of coin and out of options, deciding to risk life and limb to make sure you have a safe place to sleep, and hopefully a full stomach. So, you descend into the darkness with the goal to eliminate as many of these killer frogs as you can and then escape safely. This one shot is designed for four to six adventurers, using the 2014 rules to build first level characters. Why first level? Because this is probably the most dangerous level for all adventurers, and most games tend to just skip over it, so it is time to show it some love. This game is designed for: -Anyone who wants to learn how to play Dungeons and Dragons. -Anyone looking for a combat challenge. -Anyone who wants to try out a new class/species they are unfamiliar with. -Anyone who likes to compete with others to be the best -Anyone... This is a part of the "Academy of Adventurer" module by Scott McClintock, Marc Altfuldisch, Kathleen Harrington, which is available on the DM Guild.

About me

Have been playing and DMing DND 5e since 2020. Started out learning how to play so I can run a game for my nephews, and then expanded out to go from there. More focused on the role playing and fun aspect of the games, and show an importance on helping newer players learn how to play in a safe environment to enjoy the game as much as I do. As long as you are respectful of others, you are welcome at my tables.

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place during the first part of the one shot, where we will create the characters together in Roll20. We will be using either Point Buy or Standard Array. No third party or homebrew content is allowed. Only official sourcebooks which I happen to own at the moment, which are: • 2014 Players Handbook/Monster Manual/DM Guide • Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus • Candlekeep Mysteries • Dungeons of the Mad Mage • Ghosts of Saltmarsh • Lost Mines of Phandelver/Phandelver and Below • Mordenkainen’s Tome of Foes • Tales from the Yawning Portal • Tasha's Cauldron of Everything • Volo’s Guide to Monsters • Waterdeep – Dungeon of the Mad Mage • Xanathar’s Guide to Everything

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Roll20 Links will be provided, as well as a link to the Discord, which will be used for the audio and (optional) video. All character sheets and action will happen in Roll20, so you must have an account, which can be created for free. You should also have a headset/microphone for the audio, and optionally a camera if you wish to share video. A link to my Discord would also be provided, which will provide the appropriate zoom links as well as any pertinent game information.

What Daniel K. brings to the table

A session would last between 2.5-3.5 hours, using only Roll20 and Discord audio. We will spend the first part of the session creating characters (mini-session 0), then the party will head down into the depths to fight some frogs. The frogs are endless, so it is not about winning the battle. It is about killing as many as you can, then escaping before you are overwhelmed. It is up to you to decide how long you remain, but if the frogs defeat all of you, no rewards will be given, so choose wisely to determine when to continue to attack, and when to pull the plug. This is an inclusive table where all are welcome. No hatred or bigotry would be tolerated at the table. We will use safety tools and lines and veils to create a safe environment for all. A microphone is required for the audio call. Video is optional. Additionally, a Roll20 account is required, which can be created for free. The links will be provided. I will provide everything needed to run the one shot, with maps, tokens, and ambiance provided. I also work to keep the game confined to the specified timeframes, although since the battle only ends when the players choose (as long as you remain alive), there is the potential to run a little longer. This would rarely happen, but is not impossible.

Homebrew rules

Mostly using standard 2014 rules, with a few modifications: • Drinking a potion is a bonus action, but you may also use an action for a healing potion to receive the full healing benefit. • Using optional flanking rule. • Some rule tweaking will happen if it enhances the player experience and improves the story, up to the discretion of the DM.

Safety

How Daniel K. creates a safe table

No bullying, sexual harassment, racism, hate speech, homophobia, or prejudice will be tolerated. Lines and Veils and Player Safety cards will be discussed during session 0, and are integrated into the Roll20 game. We will also utilize a digital deck of player safety to allow players to anonymously submit any hot button topics to avoid. All players are welcome as long as you treat others with respect!
