About the adventure

This game is meant to be more on the gritty side. You'll be doing piecemeal jobs for different factions, no loyalty to anything but coin. Characters would be battle-hardened, their backstory explicit on why they joined up, why this is better than whatever they left behind. This is intended for intermediate players, but if newer players would like a challenge, step right up. This is set in my homebrew world, Kosirus, on the continent of Barrowfell. I run a story-forward game, heavy on roleplay. The party will need to think about their roles carefully, a balance of charismatic people and capable fighters are paramount to a successful merc company.

About me

Hi! My name is Sam Duguay, and I am a professional dungeon master. I worked in a commercial kitchen for about 10 years before I realized that it just wasn't my calling anymore. Luckily, a new game store had just opened up and need some new DMs. Having been a DM before, made my mistakes and learned from them, I wanted to give it another shot. Well, as of writing this, my players are going to be going to be playing the finale of a campaign that's been running almost 2 years, I work at that game shop (Dragon Guild in Chilliwack, BC, if you're interested) as a manager, am writing a book, and I run games roughly 3-4 times a week. I really am living my dream. So, if you're interested in my services (the services of a DM that has skill in writing, table management, and plenty of experience in 5th Edition), please, feel free to reach out! My rates are reasonable and adjustable based on your financial ability. I do this for the love of the game. Hope to hear from you soon!

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need a Discord account and a Roll20 account.

What Sam Duguay / Oathsworn Storytelling brings to the table

I like to have an ambient soundtrack to punctuate my storytelling. I embrace Rule of Cool. I enjoy strong roleplay, and when combat happens, I like strategy.

Homebrew rules

- Potions are a bonus action to roll the dice, an action gets you the maximum. Feeding someone a potion is an action. -Crunchy Crits. You take the maximum of the dice you would roll, then add the modifier, then roll the dice. - Flanking gives +2 to hit instead of advantage. - Lucky feat only gets 1 point, but recharges on a short rest or a crit. - Nat 20 in initiative lets you pick where you want to be in initiative after order's been determined. - You get 1 free revive from death, but afterwards a Resurrection DC takes effect, starting at 10 and going up by 5 each time you die.
