About the adventure

You and your crew have scraped together some half-decent equipment, filled out all the appropriate paperwork (in triplicate), and you are now finally ready to mine your claim! Unfortunately, you’ve discovered that a couple of rival prospectors have squatted on your plot, and you need to show them who’s boss. Take them out, scare them off, or (if you’re desperate) make a deal with them—the choice is yours! This is an introduction to the SHIFT RPG system, and will be run on the SHIFT RPG Discord server.

About me

I have been GMing since shortly after 2000, and playing since the late 1980s. I have run more campaigns than I care to count, from multi-year epics (not yet a decade or more) of my own design to one-shots. I tend to favor player agency - which means I steer away from horror, though neither do I favor Monty Haul to the point that it undoes the story. I have likewise read more RPG systems than I care to count (quite a few of them not listed on StartPlaying's forms because they are too old or niche), and written content for some of them. Some of that content has been published by the system's publisher. IRL I am an engineer, so I tend to think through the implications of fantastical elements: when I am confronted with a new magic system for a new RPG, I sometimes consider how one could build a bridge with it (if that is in theme with the magic).

Character creation

Creating your character

Quick character creation is included in the beginning of the allocated session time, though any player who wants to create ahead of time is welcome to do so. Standard SHIFT character generation rules apply, using the Dorado Station setting in the core book.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

This will happen on the SHIFT RPG Discord server, https://discord.com/invite/5GS4g3WTuw . Players will need a Discord account (a free account will suffice) and to connect to the server before game time. There will be a thread for this game under #organized-play-scheduling ; to make sure players who have signed up have connected to the server, please react to the game's thread with an emote before game time, as the thread instructs.

What Adrian Tymes brings to the table

This is an introductory session to SHIFT, with minimal frills: no ambient music, map combat, or the like. SHIFT embraces Rule of Cool in the Rules as Written; with that caveat, I intend to stick to Rules as Written.

Homebrew rules

No significant homebrew is intended for this session, as this is intended to show off the core of SHIFT RPG.
