About the adventure
# Blasters. Bad debts. Broken ships. Big scores. ๐๐ฅ Welcome to fierce space adventure on the wrong side of hyperspace. ๐ You are **starport scum**: small-time spacers, salvagers, bounty hunters, mercs, drifters, ex-soldiers, rogues, criminals, and desperate fools looking for your first real score. You have a few guns, a little nerve, maybe a ship, maybe just access to one, and just enough reputation for dangerous people to offer you dangerous work. ๐ซ๐ ๏ธ๐ช This is a sandbox campaign of grimy sci-fi adventure, desperate firefights, salvage runs, dirty jobs, rival crews, bad choices, and the eternal hope that the next score will finally make everything easier. It probably wonโt. ๐ ## What kind of campaign is this? ๐งญ This is a **player-directed sandbox** built through play. The campaign begins with the crew looking for its first job. From there, your choices will shape the galaxy around you. You might take salvage contracts, security work, bounty jobs, mercenary gigs, survey expeditions, corporate errands, or offers that absolutely sound like traps but pay too well to ignore. ๐ฐ Each session will usually focus on one job: ๐ Pick the lead ๐บ๏ธ Hit the map ๐ซ Play out the raid, salvage op, shootout, chase, ambush, rescue, theft, or disaster ๐ธ Get paid, looted, cheated, injured, betrayed, or all of the above ๐ป Roleplay the aftermath ๐ก Choose what trouble you want to chase next The setting will grow outward from the table. Factions, planets, stations, recurring NPCs, enemies, patrons, rumors, grudges, and weird locations will emerge from a mix of GM creativity, player suggestions, random tables, and the consequences of your own decisions. ๐๐ฐ๏ธ๐ฝ ## What will play feel like? ๐ฒ Expect a mix of roleplay and tactical map-based action. This is not a heavily scripted adventure path. There is no grand destiny waiting for you. There is no chosen one. There is probably a leaking fuel line, a bounty hunter with your picture, a cargo manifest that does not match the bodies in the hold, and a corporate fixer insisting that this job is โperfectly legal.โ ๐งพ๐ฌ The fun is in seeing what kind of crew you become. Are you honorable rogues? Ruthless professionals? Semi-competent criminals? Hard-luck salvagers? Bounty hunters with a code? Mercs who always end up doing the right thing for the wrong price? That will come out in play. โจ ## The rules ๐ We will be playing **Starport Scum** rules-as-written as the foundation, with optional rules from the wider line, supplements, and publisher zines added when they sound cool and fit the campaign. ๐ค The game is fast, dangerous, and characterful. It sits somewhere between a roleplaying game and a miniatures skirmish game, with story and campaign consequences wrapped around fun tabletop combat. Characters can rise, fall, get hurt, recruit help, find strange gear, make enemies, and maybe live long enough to become legends. Maybe. โ ๏ธ ## You do not need to know the rules already โ New players are welco

About me
Rules-lite RPGs are my passion. Collaborating with players to create background and backstory is what I enjoy most. Creating a great character-driven narrative that we will tell for years is my goal. My preference is for RPG systems that support the story and also allow for players to have the option to succeed at a cost, driving the story to a climactic finish where all those checks must be paid. RPGs work best when it's like a jazz ensemble, where the whole group plays together most of the time but everyone gets a chance to step forward for their solo from time to time. I've been running a lot of "legacy campaigns" lately, where the characters can have a profound impact on the game world in a short campaign. Then start a new campaign set a few years or decades in the future in that changed world, with some of the players coming back, while some new players may also join, with characters that may or may not be related to the previous campaign. I'm available for a custom session or campaign. I ask that, if you book a custom game, that the table be at least four players, even if one of those seats ends up being empty. Custom campaigns are offered at $11/seat, including a session 0 and at least 6 additional sessions. One-shots are offered at $16.50/seat. I can put together a quality one-shot in a few days if it's a system on my list. If it's not on my list, it may be similar to something I already know, please, feel free to ask.

Creating your character
## Character Creation ๐ฒ๐งโ๐ Character creation will be **by the book**: we roll the dice and discover who crawls out of the starport. ๐โจ No perfect builds. No optimized super-soldiers. No carefully engineered destiny. You roll what you get, and then we make that character awesome. ๐ Maybe you were ex-military. Maybe you were a colonist, a gang member, a trader, a pilot, a drifter, or someone who almost had a respectable life before everything went sideways. Maybe you found true love, made good money, got your own ship, became famous, or discovered something deep in space. And then, because this is *Starport Scum*, it all fell apart. ๐๐ธ๐ฅ The war destroyed everything. Pirates took what was yours. A rival brought you down. The government shut you out. You gambled and lost. You were betrayed. Or maybe you just suffered the galaxyโs most expensive midlife crisis. ๐๐ฌ From those rolls, weโll build your characterโs traits, gear, attitude, grudges, scars, debts, and bad decisions. Your character may start as a nobody, a bruiser, an ace, or someone with just enough talent to be dangerous. Whoever they are, they are now part of the crew. The dice give us the raw material. We turn it into trouble. ๐ซ๐ ๏ธ๐ Come ready to embrace the chaos, laugh at the results, and make a memorable scoundrel out of whatever the galaxy throws at you. Around here, legends are not built from perfect plans. They are built from bad rolls, worse choices, and surviving long enough to get paid. ๐ฐ๐๐ฒ
What to expect
Preparing for the session
## Player Preparation ๐๐ง๐บ๏ธ Before you ship out, make sure your comms are working and your gear is loaded. The galaxy is dangerous enough without technical difficulties. ๐ You will need: ๐ง **Discord** We use Discord for voice during the session. Please join the campaign Discord before game time so we can talk, plan, panic, celebrate lucky shots, and blame the dice together. ๐บ๏ธ **Roll20 Account** We use Roll20 for the tabletop: maps, tokens, characters, crews, firefights, objectives, scenery, and all the beautiful chaos that happens once the job goes sideways. ๐ซ๐ฅ ๐ฒ **No Rules Mastery Required** You do not need to know the system before joining. I will teach the rules as we play. *Starport Scum* is fast, dangerous, and wonderfully direct: get to cover, take the shot, grab the loot, drag your buddy out, and try not to become someone elseโs salvage. โ ๏ธ ๐งโ๐ **Come Ready to Roll With It** Character creation is by the book, which means the dice will help us discover who you are, what you lost, what you still want, and why you are desperate enough to take dangerous work on the wrong side of hyperspace. ๐ฒ๐ ๐ค **Bring the Crew Energy** This is a sandbox campaign built through play. Your choices matter. Your suggestions matter. Your bad ideas definitely matter. Factions, rivals, planets, patrons, grudges, and opportunities will grow from what happens at the table. ๐ก **Before Session Time** Please have Discord and Roll20 ready, your microphone working, and enough time to log in a few minutes early. Once the job starts, the ship is lifting off whether the cargo bay door is closed or not. ๐๐ฐ Bring your nerve. Bring your imagination. Bring a willingness to get into trouble. The job board is blinking. Letโs go get paid. ๐ซ๐ ๏ธ๐ธ
What Ukulele Mike brings to the table
## What I Provide ๐๐บ๏ธ๐ซ Iโll bring everything needed to launch the job, light up the map, and keep the trouble moving. ๐ Youโll get a fast, friendly, fully prepared online tabletop experience built for dangerous jobs, desperate crews, and glorious sci-fi chaos on the wrong side of hyperspace. ๐ Hereโs what I provide: ๐บ๏ธ **Roll20 Maps & Battlefields** Each job will be played out on a prepared Roll20 map: starports, docking bays, derelict ships, frontier colonies, corporate facilities, alien ruins, backwater settlements, cargo yards, dirty alleys, and whatever other dangerous places the crew decides to visit. Expect cover, objectives, hazards, useful scenery, and places where everything can go sideways. ๐ฅ ๐งโ๐ **Tokens for Characters, Crews, Enemies & Weirdos** Iโll provide tokens for player characters, crew members, rivals, bounty hunters, security goons, pirates, droids, aliens, civilians, monsters, and whatever else crawls out of the vents. ๐ฝ๐คโ ๏ธ ๐ **Character & Crew Support** Weโll use Roll20 to track characters, traits, gear, crews, injuries, loot, and all the little details that turn a random scoundrel into someone the table remembers. Character creation is by the book, but Iโll guide everyone through it. ๐ฒ ๐ง **Discord Voice Server** Weโll use Discord for voice, table chatter, planning, dramatic warnings, terrible ideas, lucky shots, and post-job disbelief. Please bring a working mic and a willingness to yell โI drag him behind the crates!โ when things get bad. ๐ง๐ซ ๐ **Rules Guidance & Teaching** You do not need to know *Starport Scum* before joining. I own the core rules, supplements, and related material weโll be using, and Iโll teach the game as we play. The goal is to keep things moving, make rulings clearly, and get you into the action fast. โ๏ธ ๐งญ **Sandbox Campaign Prep** This campaign will grow through play. Iโll prepare jobs, locations, NPCs, rumors, factions, and complications based on the crewโs choices. Each session will create new consequences, opportunities, enemies, and possible scores. The galaxy will get bigger because you messed with it. ๐๐ฐ๏ธ๐ฐ ๐ญ **NPCs, Patrons, Rivals & Trouble** Iโll bring shady employers, desperate locals, corporate fixers, rival crews, bounty hunters, pirates, law officers, smugglers, weird aliens, dangerous contacts, and people who are definitely not telling you the whole truth. ๐ถ๏ธ ๐ธ **Jobs, Loot, Fallout & Consequences** Every score matters. Iโll handle job setup, mission objectives, rewards, loot, heat, injuries, recruitment, and the fallout from whatever happened on the map. If you make enemies, they may come back. If you make friends, they may need help. If you steal something valuable, someone probably wants it back. ๐ฌ

How Ukulele Mike creates a safe table
๐ก๏ธ๐โจ *Starport Scum* is about dangerous jobs, desperate choices, blaster fights, shady employers, weird aliens, bad debts, and glorious trouble on the wrong side of hyperspace. ๐ซ๐๐ฐ But the **players at the table matter more than the trouble on the map**. This campaign is meant to be fun, welcoming, adventurous, and comfortable for everyone. The characters may be dodging bounty hunters, crawling through derelict ships, making terrible deals, and getting shot at behind cargo crates, but the players should always feel respected and safe. ๐ค๐งโ๐ To help with that, weโll use the following safety tools: ๐งญ **Lines & Veils** Before play, weโll talk about content boundaries. **Lines** are things that will not appear in the game. **Veils** are things that may exist in the world but will stay off-screen, faded out, or handled briefly. This helps keep the campaign exciting without wandering into material that makes the table less fun. โ โธ๏ธ **Breaks** Weโll have time for a short break during the session, and players are always welcome to step away briefly if needed. No interrogation, no problem. Sometimes even scoundrels need to breathe, refill water, check on pets, or recover from the latest bad plan. ๐โ๐ ๐ช **Open Door** You are free to leave the session at any time, for any reason. Real life comes first. Comfort comes first. You do not need to justify taking care of yourself. ๐ โ **X-Card** If something comes up in play that needs to be changed, skipped, softened, or removed, you can use the X-Card by voice, chat, or private message. No explanation is required. Weโll pause, adjust, and keep the game moving in a better direction. ๐โจ โญ **Stars & Wishes** At the end of sessions, weโll use Stars & Wishes to celebrate what worked and help shape what comes next. **Stars** are things you enjoyed: great moments, cool choices, funny lines, dramatic scenes, lucky shots, memorable NPCs, or wild map chaos. **Wishes** are things youโd like to see more of in future sessions: more salvage, more roleplay, more weird aliens, more rival crews, more ship trouble, more dangerous jobs, or anything else that would make the campaign better. โญ๐ The goal is simple: Keep the crew reckless. Keep the players safe. Keep the adventure moving. ๐๐ซ๐ซ We can absolutely have danger, tension, betrayal, firefights, monsters, and bad decisions without making the table unsafe. The galaxy may be rough, but this table is friendly. ๐ค๐
