About the adventure

You open your eyes and cough, sending a small cloud of dust and dirt into the air. Eventually you pull yourself up on your elbows and look around you. First of all - everything hurts - your muscles are screaming and it takes more than a moment to get up to your hands and knees, and then eventually to your feet. Around you, the jungle has fallen quiet. Wait.... Jungle?! What the hell?! You reach down towards your pocket for your phone - but there are no pockets. As you look down towards your leg you notice for the first time that you're wearing some kind of body suit - almost like a surfing outfit. You search frantically but there's no phone. And then you hear it - a guttural, enormous, violent roar in the distance - and the hair on the back of your neck stands up as you freeze. What was that?! You glance around anxiously, hearing your heartbeat pound in your ears, and notice about 50 feet off to your right there is someone standing there - in a similar suit and staring right back at you with a look of terror on their face. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My kid recently started watching Camp Cretaceous on Netflix - a cartoon based in the world of Jurassic Park. Having watch the first few episodes with him, I almost immediately thought to myself - "This would be such a cool concept to turn into a campaign!" - and here we are. To make it make sense within the guidelines of Daggerheart, your character can be of any class, species, etc. but each character will be a teenager (or the equivalent) of whatever species you pick, and you will "discover" your magic as the island imbues you each with gifts to help you survive - if you can! We will be setting the campaign in the modern world - well, a modern world where magic and dinosaurs exist! :) I would love to have players who enjoy fleshing out a personal background story for their character, but then working to develop connections and build trust with the others characters as we go along. This is somewhat in opposition to the mechanics of Daggerheart that allow for Connections to be set up ahead of time - we will build those connections as we go! Strangers forced together for survival and all that! I am still nailing down the mechanics of ensuring your characters are armed and armored - but finding those items will likely be built into the survival story line! More below in Character Creation. This type of high adrenaline, survival story is new for me to GM - so I would love to have new to Daggerheart players join as well as experienced players. Join us and have a ton of fun!

About me

Hi, my name is Wynn. I am a dad, volunteer, and attorney who lives on the east coast. I'm originally from Western NY (Go Bills!) and have lived in a variety of places around the country. In my day job I get really stressed out, so this is what I do for fun! I had parents who would never have let me near DND as a kid, but who also encouraged me to embrace the worlds of Tolkien, Lewis, L'Engle, and so many more. I grew up with friends who would make wooden swords with me and reenact Redwall scenes out in the grove of trees behind their house. My imagination ran wild. In primary and secondary school, and then in college as well, I became invested in theater of all kinds - Shakespeare, musicals, opera - you name it. I loved being on stage and behind the scenes as well. Given all of those things - it only makes sense that when I finally stumbled upon the world of TTRPGs as an adult I felt like I had found what I'd been missing for such a long time. I dove in head-first, inundating myself first in the work of Critical Role and then on from there. I GMed many times before ever having the chance to play myself, but have been fortunate to be a player several times now - including on a recent (and fantastic) Daggerheart campaign through SPG! I can't wait to connect with more amazing people.

Character creation

Creating your character

As I mentioned above, we will be relying on the core rules as presented in Daggerheart. I have the ability to content share in Demiplane if you don't have the core book purchased - so don't stress that portion! All species/ancestries/classes, etc. are totally cool - we can get really funky with this! Imagine if the characters in Jurassic Park were an orc, or a spunky dwarf, or a self-aware AI within a clank body! Would it be a little unusual? Sure. But it could also be really cool. I am more than happy to work with you on character development to help you make someone that you both want to play, and that makes sense within the setting. Armor and weapons will (most likely) be collected as part of the early storyline! Magic is absolutely present on the island, but I have a handful of ideas on how to make the magic fit within the modern setting - more than happy to chat about it. If you are someone who loves to see what everyone else is doing and balance the party (so to speak), that's totally cool. But please know that if I end up with a campaign that's 6 seraphs I will adjust and make that work for us! I want everyone to be happy with their character choices and our story can flex to give everyone the chance to play someone they truly enjoy and care about.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

At the moment the only tool you'll need is a Demiplane account (to design a character) and a Discord account. Everything we need will be accomplished primarily through Discord with the help of some handy dandy bots! Instructions on how to use those (Avrae & Tupperbox; Daggerheart Dice) will be present in the discord server.

What Wynn brings to the table

I am hoping that this campaign will feel very organic and come together with a mutual love for story-telling in a fun, big-screen familiar setting. As GM I will provide NPCs with rich history, demeanor, personalities, and more. I will help construct memorable settings and "lay the table" with rich written descriptions of locations, interactions, etc. As needed, I will take the reins on pacing to help us stay on track and make sure you feel like you're getting as much out of this process as well. I always want to emphasize players loving the game and feeling safe enough to have the best experience possible. Definitely a fan of Rule of Cool - if it furthers the narrative and doesn't defy setting logic, tell me what you want to do and we'll figure it out together from there! I do my best to utilize the guidelines of a great resource for Play-By-Post style campaigns - "Keep the Story Moving" by Roberto Bisceglie. This includes a pre-agreed Response Clock and Auto-Pilot understanding to help keep the story from getting stale or feeling stuck!

Homebrew rules

Ok - this is going to sound really simple, but still. Being chased by a dinosaur is stressful - so expect for the circumstances of the survival story to occasionally impact how we play. For example - if the group has spent hours running from a T-rex, then a long rest may take more time than usual. Or another example - if you've come face to face with a pack of raptors from whom you barely escape - you are definitely going to mark some stress! As I mentioned above - before we get going we'll discuss our agreement on a Response Time General Rule as well as whether or not we are agreed to have the GM Auto-Pilot if needed to help keep things moving. Looking forward to learning and playing alongside you to make this the best game we can!

How Wynn creates a safe table

Prior to beginning any game with me, I will have you complete a Digital Participant Agreement/No's & Go's Form. The Agreement & Form cover everything from: 1) What to expect from me and my game-style as far as topics, etc. 2) What content is out-of-bounds from the start - my hard lines. 3) What your big No's are (things you are uncomfortable with and don't want in your game). 4) What your Go's are (things you are comfortable with - at various levels - and ok with in your game). 5) My expectations of all participants regarding PC to PC conduct and interactions. 6) The tools/rules in place to help us maintain and monitor throughout game-play as things come up. And more. In my day to day life I work in the middle of situations where boundaries of all kinds have been crossed - personal, community, legal, and others. So I don't want to have to deal with that type of conflict in my free time if it can be avoided! So if you aren't down to be cool, stay calm, and keep things chill - then you'll probably want to look elsewhere.
