About the adventure
This is the Descent into Avernus module for D&D using 5.5e rules. The hook has been altered to provide more emotional stakes in the quest to bring Elturel back to Faerun. Players will be citizen of Elturel who were not pulled in with their city. The Fall of Eltural add on will serve as the opening to the campaign. Adventures In Faerun and Heroes of Faerun content is available as well, so you can use the unique spells, subclasses, and so on. Unfortunaely I do not allow homebrew or anything outside of the Players Handbook or the Faerun books. Because of the nature of the campaign, sensitive topics are likely to appear in the game. Please see below for more details and if you are unsure about anything please do not hesitate to ask. We will conduct a free session zero get characters arrange and cover gameplay standards and expectations to ensure a safe environment for everyone. Note that I require the players to be on video as well as audio. I have found that players make better connections with each other and me when we can see each others faces.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I first rolled a d20 in the 1980s with AD&D and have been devoted to tabletop storytelling ever since. No other medium captures the combination of imagination, collaboration, and discovery that TTRPGs create. The friendships formed around those tables and the memories that came from them have stayed with me for decades, and a big part of why I run games is the desire to pass that experience on to others. My strongest influences come from the Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance, along with the quiet power and depth of A Wizard of Earthsea, which remains my favorite fantasy story. I bring a lifelong love of these worlds to everything I do with tabletop roleplaying. I hold a degree in Creative Writing and have won several awards for my fiction, and I draw on that training whenever I build settings or shape narrative threads. I also have extensive experience in theater acting and production, which has helped me understand pacing, presence, and how to keep collaborative storytelling engaging for everyone at the table.

Creating your character
When we have met the minimum amount of players, I will provide you with a Roll20 link to the campaign. Please make your new character at level 3 inside Roll20. I ask that you do not link a character from elsewhere such as D&D Beyond as I have had numerous technical issues with this in the past.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Please let me know your character concept and I will do my best to accomodate your ideas in the context of the game. We will do audio and video via Discord, and the virtual table top via Roll20.
What Immovable Rod brings to the table
In addition to being a table top game for 40 years now, I also have a theater background as well as a creative writing background. The module is a frame, but I will give it my all to ensure that your experience is unique and fulfilling through memorable NPCs, engaging storyling, and interesting combat. The module itself has some maps that are reasonable, but I have recreated many of them in Inkarnate to add color and flavor that black and white sketches do not have.
Homebrew rules
I am open to nearly any homebrew rule as long as all the players unanimously consent to the rule. I have two recommendations for this campaign. The first is the Perkins crit rules. The second is allowing potions to give their max value of healing if a full action is taken to drink it.

How Immovable Rod creates a safe table
Safety and comfort is my top concern at all times. I use a lot of standard tools to ensure this. I also expect each of the players to notify me ahead of the campaign starting of any particular topics that would make you feel uncomfortable. I will do my utmost to ensure that these topics never come in to play at the table or in the communication outside of the game between sessions.
