About the adventure

Ariarcus: a cold, distant colony moon. You take on the role of a USCM colonial marine, assigned to this desolate backwater. Here at the border between the United Americas and the Union of Progressive Peoples, a simmering cold war is on the verge of turning very hot indeed. You're a grunt. A jarhead. All of this political stuff is above your pay grade. When the higher ups give you an order, you hop to it. And fresh orders have just come in. A crack squad of elite specialists has been slapped together, hastily outfitted with as many guns as could be spared, and given the task of hunting down a small group of AWOL soldiers. Apparently they stole something from some corporate fat cats. All that matters is you find them before they can flee the colony. But there are far worse things out there in the cold and dark than fugitives, UPP spies, and corporate agents...

About me

The name's Seth, but you can call me CTP! My goal is to provide the best gaming experience for you that I possibly can, and I have high standards! I've got over 20 years of TTRPG experience; at least 50% of that time was as a DM/GM running games for my friends. I consider myself an exceptional GM. I balance improv, acting, fun voices and accents, and thorough system knowledge with a sense of fairness, excitement, narrative development, and humor. I run pre-written material as well as creating my own adventures and campaigns. I also know what it's like from the players' POV. https://www.youtube.com/@CTP_GNG ^ check out my silly gaming YouTube channel if you want to hear some voices and SUCH; the Legend of Legaia playlist has a lot of voice acting nonsense I tell you what boy howdy.

Character creation

Creating your character

You get to pick one of seven pre-made characters, each with unique personal agendas that evolve and change throughout the scenario. Ruth Anne Dante—USCMC Private 1st Class—Assault Team Breacher: Tough as nails and a heavy weapons specialist, great if you enjoy blowing things up. Nathaniel A.W. Hammer—USCMC Private—Assault Team Automatic Rifleman and Smartgun Operator: A vat-grown super soldier, Hammer is basically a violent sociopath intent on proving he is the deadliest SOB in the galaxy. Luca Mason—USCMC Gunnery Sergeant—Assault Team Squad Leader and CBRN Specialist: Luca has seen some things... she's a good pick if you want to have that thousand-yard-stare and a better sense of what is actually going on. Chaplain—USCMC Warrant Officer—Synthetic Assault Team Combat Technician and Hospital Corpsman: Chaplain is an android and thus isn't allowed to harm humans. He is here for support, tech, and medical aid. He's an interesting choice if you want to play a non-human or a less violent character. Beatriz Silva—USCMC Captain—Assault Team Field Commander: Do you want to be in charge? It's a thankless job, but somebody has to call the shots. Kale Iona—USCMC Sergeant—Assault Team Automatic Rifleman: Kale seems like a laid-back guy, but there is more to him than what you see on the surface. He's a good pick if you want a big gun but want to be more of a normal person than Hammer. Stanley T. Zmijewski—USCMC Private 1st Class —Assault Team Rifleman: The gruntiest of the grunts, Zmijewski is just a soldier. No-nonsense, nothing fancy.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

All you will need to play is a Discord account, a good mic and internet connection. We'll be playing on Foundry VTT, but I will be providing the links and material you will need to play.

What CockroachTeaParty brings to the table

I've run all of the printed cinematic and campaign modules for the 1st edition of the Alien RPG, so I know what I'm doing! These games are a lot of fun, and if you're a fan of the Alien franchise you're going to have a blast. This system is relatively rules-light and the action is largely controlled by your decisions. Everyone will have a hidden personal agenda that might lead to interesting conflicts... will you help your companions, or leave them out to dry? I would not advise getting too attached to your character, as this is supposed to simulate an action / horror film. Not everyone is expected to make it out alive... But if your character suffers a gruesome death, there will be plenty of NPCs (or the unselected members of the squad) to take their place and keep you in the game.

Homebrew rules

I will be incorporating some of the rules from the newer edition to prevent the 'panic spiral' from happening. Specifically will be using 'stress responses' for most stress-dice related rolls, saving true panic rolls for the really scary stuff.

Safety

How CockroachTeaParty creates a safe table

If you ever feel like you need a break from the TERROR, we can always take five; just be aware this is a game based off of a film franchise known for gruesome violence and body horror.
