About the adventure
The Far North, an icy land of windswept tundra, recently became locked in a perpetual, dark winter without reprieve. Auril the Frostmaiden, the divine embodiment of winter’s fury, has withdrawn to this cold corner of the world to live among mortals. Further, she has cast a terrible spell over Icewind Dale, to the detriment of most of its denizens. While many still worships the Frostmaiden, many seeks to challenge her in the face of this existential threat -- and some have made progress. With an artifact stolen from her, one can venture into a lost city buried under the glacier -- a city that Auril hid from the world, for it contains power enough to end the Everlasting Rime. The everlasting winter brings adventurers unique challenges beyond monsters with claws and fangs. In the land buried under the glacier is an alien world frozen in time, along with some uninvited newcomers. This campaign will be focused on exploring and surviving the deadly beauty of the glacial chasms, with a high emphasis on survival, combat, and exploration, with relatively moderate emphasis on roleplay. This game is intended for players with some experience with the DnD 5e system, though no extensive background is at all required. Unlike classical DnD campaigns, some rules will be adjusted to better suit the unique challenges and setting of Icewind Dale. With respect to the story of the adventure itself, it will be a nonlinear story where the players' actions will be the main driving force of events happening in the game. It will be up to the players to protect the fragile environment of the far north and prevent the region from environmental ruins. All proceeds from this game go to an environmental protection charity of the group's choosing.

About me
Hi all, my name is Peter (he/him/his). I am a DM by day, therapist by night, DM again by later night. I started playing TTRPGs in college where I fell in love with the aspect of collaborative storytelling, which I found to be more compelling and free than other art forms. I also found the therapeutic and healing nature of creating a story and embodiment of ourselves within the story. I enjoy all different genres, from urban fantasy to gothic horror to space opera. I run most games in D&D 5e, but am also running in other systems based on the appropriate focus of the game. I enjoy experimenting with different styles of gameplay, and none of my campaigns have ever felt the same. Some focus on exploration, others on strategy, others on social intrigue, or mystery solving. I am also interested in introducing culturally diverse inspirations in my games. As a enthusiast for world mythology and folklore (with certain academic background), I try to study up and incorporate folkloric themes, mostly from my native East Asia, but also from ancient Egypt, medieval Scandinavia, and any other source that I can learn enough to be respectfully informed about.

Creating your character
I will host a session 0 where character creation is done, along with discussions of safety, content inclusion/exclusion, home rules, and a short intro to the world and expectation of the adventure. This is a mid-level campaign. Player characters will start at level 6, and any officially published DnD 5e material is acceptable (including both 2014 and 2024 versions of the Player Handbook). If you wish to use other published content, or popular homebrew content, you can reach out and discuss the balance and make sure all players are okay with it (i.e. it's not automatically accepted but we can work things out). I also can provide a handful of premade characters for players to freely choose or take inspiration from if any player is interested. You can use any of the three main methods of creating stats: standard array, point-buy, and rolling. For rolling stats, roll 4d6 and keep the highest 3, while re-rolling any and all 1s. Note I may ask you to re-roll stats if they are exceptionally high (or low). Since this is a exploration-focused campaign, I want to ensure a sufficient level of player strength to survive the encounters.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
The only requirement is a microphone. Webcam is highly preferred, so is making an account on the websites we will be using, most likely Roll20 but we may also use Owlbear Rodeo, tabletop simulator, or Zoom, depending on the preferences of the players. It is also preferred to have a copy of the Player's Handbook, though not a strict requirement (reach out to me for resources if you need). We will create characters together during session 0.
What TheRealPeterPan brings to the table
The game will be run via Discord and Roll20. Players are welcome to use character sheets on D&D Beyond or other platforms to help their gameplay. I will use maps published with the official book material, while also making custom tokens and art. As a DM I am generally very flexible with home-brewing rules, preferring ingenuity and creativity over rules-as-written playstyles. I also have a list of home-rules that I will send to all player before first session to review and discuss, same with a list of topics that players can choose their comfort level. I will not include any content that would make any player uncomfortable.
Homebrew rules
Homebrew rules will be shared with players at session 0 where we can all discuss which ones we want to keep, which ones we want to ignore. In this campaign, homebrew rules will focus on cold climate mechanics, camp supplies, and scavenging.

How TheRealPeterPan creates a safe table
I will send out a survey asking player's level of comfort with a list of possible topics, and I will adjust the game accordingly. I will not include any topic as long as one player marks it as strictly off-limits. For more ambiguous topics, I will lead a discussion during session 0 about how these topics can or cannot be included. I will give examples with varying levels of detail and the group will decide together on an acceptable level. During the campaign I will ask for regular feedback where players can express any concerns after each session. During the session, if a topic appears players can privately message me and I will call a brief break where we can discuss how to proceed.
