About the adventure

Known by all, loved by many, the most popular and respected Grand Duke of Baldur's Gate in the city's history, a legendary hero and adventurer of years past, Abdel Adrian, also know as Gorion's Ward, is about to give a speech at The Wide - the biggest plaza in the Upper City of Baldur's Gate often used as a marketplace. The occasion for the speech is the Returning Day - the most important Baldurian holiday when people celebrate the return of the famous sailor Balduran from Anchorôme to Faerûn, who brought unbelievable riches from his voyage back to his home village of Gray Harbor some 400 years ago and ordered the fortification of the village and building of the city walls around it, thus founding Baldur's Gate. You are among the spectators, the audience at The Wide, ready to witness the living legend. But something goes wrong. Terribly wrong... Starting from that day, you will be caught in the middle of a whirlwind of catastrophic events that would signify the beginning of the Second Sundering - the cataclysm that would later shape the Forgotten Realms as you know them. Are you ready to make history?

About me

Hi there! My name is Maxim and I am a DM who started running DnD 5e 2014 games a few years ago out of love for what is arguably the best, most ambitious and massive high fantasy setting ever created in history - the Forgotten Realms! Having played through different modules set in the Realms, read different books, watched movies and played video games, all about the Realms, I decided that I want to craft and run my own stories in the setting, contribute to its great lore and share my love and appreciation for the FR Multiverse with you guys! If you are also either a fan of the Realms like I am, or would like to learn more about this awesome world; or would just like to have a good time away from the turmoil of our world, welcome to my table! The campaigns I run vary by combat/roleplay/exploration proportion and can be adapted to my players' needs and expectations. I am not a Rules Lawyer and usually implement my own variation of the Rule of Cool - Rule of the Lore, which means that if something is possible within the logic of the established Realmslore, I might allow it overwriting the rules. I am only running 5e 2014 games set in the Forgotten Realms, as I think that that system most accurately reflects the mechanics of post-Second Sundering FR universe. Through trial and error I have discovered that the most convenient (for both the players and the DM), automated and functional VTT (including the native character sheet manager) is Shard, so most of my games run there.

Character creation

Creating your character

All the character creation will be handled on Shard Tabletop. If you are unfamiliar with Shard, I will guide you through the process. We are using the D&D 5e 2014 ruleset. All the character options from PHB, SCAG, TCE, XGtE, VGM and MP:MoM are readily available in the campaign on Shard. The starting level for this campaign is 1.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

You will need to join my Discord Server, as well as create a free Shard Tabletop account (https://www.shardtabletop.com/). You will need a working mic. Camera is optional.

What Maxim brings to the table

I provide all the materials and character options on Shard VTT through DM content sharing. I am not a rules lawyer, and usually tend to agree with my players' rulings of certain situations, as long as they are reasonable (not game-breaking) and keep the narrative going. However, if a certain rule argument is dragging on for too long and disrupting the session for the other players, I might do my own ruling and invite the player to discuss it further in detail after the session (with a possibility of retconning certain things).

Homebrew rules

Drinking a Potion of Healing (of any potency) is a bonus action. Drinking any other type of a potion is an action. Administering any potion to someone else is always an action.

Safety

How Maxim creates a safe table

I will go over the Lines and Veils during Session 0. In case some players wish to send their own Lines or Veils to me privately, the will have an opportunity to do so as well. The X, N, O cards we will be using are digital, and embedded into the Shard Tabletop. If someone at the table has any question about any safety tools, or is unfamiliar with one or more of them, you are welcome to reach out to me at any time.
