About the adventure

The Republic is expanding. New hyperspace routes are being charted, distant worlds are making first contact with the wider galaxy, and construction has begun on Starlight Beacon—a symbol of hope, cooperation, and discovery for the Galactic Frontier. Beyond the familiar worlds of the Core and Mid Rim lie countless opportunities, mysteries, and challenges waiting to be uncovered. The future feels bright, and for many, it feels like anything is possible. You begin at the edge of Republic space, where settlers, explorers, diplomats, traders, prospectors, and Jedi all work together to build something new. The Frontier is a place of firsts: first contacts, first colonies, and first steps into the unknown. Every new route might reveal a thriving world, a forgotten ruin, a dangerous phenomenon, or a problem that no one else is equipped to solve. The galaxy is growing larger by the day, and there is no shortage of people who need capable individuals willing to venture beyond the map. This campaign is a Star Wars adventure set during the High Republic era, when the Jedi are at their height and exploration is reshaping the galaxy. You'll investigate mysteries, assist frontier communities, uncover lost history, navigate political tensions, encounter strange new worlds, and gradually become involved in events that reach far beyond any single system. While there will be danger, this is fundamentally a story about discovery, cooperation, and the opportunities that emerge when people choose to build rather than divide. My games lean heavily into roleplay, character-driven stories, and meaningful player choice. The Frontier is a living region filled with competing interests, ambitious ideals, and unanswered questions. Combat certainly has its place, but diplomacy, investigation, exploration, and creative problem-solving are often just as important. If you enjoy the adventurous spirit of classic Star Wars, the optimism of the High Republic, and the idea of helping shape a new chapter in galactic history, then this may be the campaign for you.

About me

I've been playing DnD for over a decade both as a player and a GM in classic DnD settings, homebrew worlds, Star Wars RPGs and other TTRPGs such as Mythic Bastionlands. I love crafting a world, filling it with intrigue and potential hooks and seeing where the players take their own adventure. I've run campaigns for completely new players and players with twice the experience I have and they've all been a blast. In addition to DnD, I also have a few years of LARP experience and a lifelong passion for fantasy and science fiction worlds which both lend themselves well to roleplay and solid worldbuilding. Aside from that I'm a queer 30 year old guy who loves comic books, Star Wars, How To Train Your Dragon, fantasy books and dice. I run sessions in person and online, in both I use my gaming table and collection of hand-painted miniatures to help set the scene as well as images for specific references.

Character creation

Creating your character

We will run a session zero where I guide you through character creation. However, this will be the standard rolling 4d6 method. Starting at level 1. The rulebook is available online and I will provide links and run through character creation, broadly speaking it uses a 3e version of D&D with a Star Wars twist.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Please have a Discord account (unless in person is a geographical possibility). I encourage players to use real dice.

What Ryan Watkiss brings to the table

I will provide a lore doc, maps, music, editable character sheet and all NPC voices. As I encourage roleplay in my sessions there are occasions where rule-of-cool will apply and great gameplay will be rewarded.

Homebrew rules

There are some features of the force skills that are not entirely functional so I make some in-game modifications to suit the needs of the campaign, I will go over these in session 0.

How Ryan Watkiss creates a safe table

In session zero and via Direct Messages before session 1 I will discuss player lines and veils as well as how to signal discomfort to me during a session.
