Meet the Game Master
About me
My name is Nevin and I've been my groups forever GM for as long as I can remember. When I got into TTRPGs back in high school I knew I had found something special, something I truly felt a calling for and loved to do. Ever since then I have been getting better and better at running my games and leading my friends through the fun, fights, fear, and high drama I create at my table. I recently made the switch from DnD 5th Edition to Pathfinder 2e and now feel ready to bring that fun to others through this platform! My style of play is heavily focused on atmosphere, immersion, and facilitating dramatic moments of tension and release. I roleplay most NPC interactions and love to delve into characters. I don't shy away from combat whatsoever and greatly enjoy challenging my players through consistent combat engagements. While a vast majority of the time I consult the rules to adjudicate my game, I also embrace going outside the box due to the rule of cool or to keep the game going at a good pace. I run my games through Foundry VTT, which includes maps, tokens, character sheets, and more. I've dedicated many hours towards making my games flow easily and efficiently using Foundry. For communication I use Discord. while I don't have a camera yet I plan on investing in one. Ever since finishing my first major campaign of Curse of Strahd I've been working diligently on a conversion of it into Pathfinder 2E. I love Curse of Strahd and want to share the horror with new players!

Creating your character
This campaign will use the in built character sheet functionality of Foundry VTT for character management during play. Since I must have the Foundry campaign open for you to log on and manage your character, I highly recommend using a tool like Pathbuilder 2e or Wanderer's guide to create your initial character, which I can then help you port into Foundry. Before we delve into Barovia I will host a free session zero where all of the players can meet and introduce themselves to each other. During this time we can discuss character ideas with each other as well as party composition. It would be wise to come to this session zero with a few character concepts already in mind. This time will also be taken to set the expectations for the campaign. This game will greatly benefit from collaboration and party cohesion, so make sure to keep an open mind! Since this adventure has your characters trapped in a realm completely foreign to them, there are not many opportunities to directly incorporate chracter backstories, but please don't let that discourage you from making one to add detail and personality to your character. There will still be many moments where your characters backstory can come into play. I run a completely AI free game and will not use any art generated via AI, including for your character portrait and token. I highly encourage you to avoid using AI during any parts of character creation.
When it comes to the composition of the party please consider how each of your characters play off each other, your collective strengths and weaknesses. We can discuss your characters relationships to each other pre-campaign during session zero. It is not required, but recommended, that the party have some degree of familiarity with each other before the game starts. Seeing as this campaign begins at level 1, please consider that when brainstorming your characters backstory. This campaign is a horror campaign with a capital H, but it should be made clear that your characters are outsiders to that horror who come from another world. If the specifics interest you, the world your characters hail from is known as Golarion, the main fantasy setting for Pathfinder. If you already know about Golarion or want to research it to help develop your backstory that would be awesome. Please keep in mind however that you will be spending very little time on Golarion during this campaign, only a short moment during the start of the adventure, so do not expect characters or objects from your backstory to appear in this campaign. While the themes and tone of this adventure are dark, your characters should still veer heavily towards heroism. That doesn't mean they must be perfect paragons of good, but rather that this adventure assumes a good aligned party that will, in general, try to help and protect the people of Barovia. This is not an evil campaign. With that in mind however, this is your chance to explore characters with a tinge of darkness in them, as such ideas fit in well with the tone of the adventure.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
As stated above, using Pathbuilder 2e or Wanderer's Guide to create and manage your character sheet outside of play is encouraged. I host the game through Foundry VTT and all communication through Discord. You will need a microphone to play, but a face cam is not required, although I will be using one. The system requirements for Foundry VTT can be found here: https://foundryvtt.com/article/requirements/ A general understanding of the Pathfinder 2e system will be beneficial, but is not required to play. I am more than willing to on-board and teach players completely new to Pathfinder 2e throughout the campaign.
What Nevin brings to the table
I bring to the table an immersive and engaging experience focused on a balance of the three pillars of gameplay. I would describe my games as fast paced, but I am very much willing to slow down for moments of levity. I always attempt to embody my characters and use interesting voices to bring them to life. Roleplay is an important part of my games and I greatly appreciate players who explore aspects of their own player characters and interface with the world of the adventure. Music is also an important part of my games and I have curated a number of playlists which add so much weight to the emotion, tension, and drama of the game. I use a simple Discord bot to sync up the music for everyone at the table and you can freely raise and lower the volume or even turn it off if preferred. Engaging and challenging combat raises the stakes and makes the game feel rewarding! While I stick to the rules a majority of the time I am more than willing to work with players with interesting ideas that can make for cool moments.
Homebrew rules
This campaign will use Milestone leveling as opposed to XP. I use the Automatic Rune Progression variant rule. I will not be using Free Archetype.

How Nevin creates a safe table
Session zero will discuss the adult and horror themed content contained within Curse of Strahd. I do not want to ever alienate, discourage, or greatly discomfort my players, but it should be understood that some parts of this game may be considered violent or cruel. The following is a set of basic assumptions that works for many groups called the Pathfinder Baseline. I use this guide at my table. - Bloodshed, injuries, and even dismemberment might be described. However, excessive descriptions of gore and cruelty should be avoided. - Romantic and sexual relationships can happen in the game, but players should avoid being overly suggestive. Sex happens “off-screen.” One player character attempting to initiate a relationship with another should generally be avoided. - Avoid excessively gross or scatological descriptions. Player characters shouldn't ever perform the following acts: - Torture - Rape, nonconsensual sexual contact, or sexual threats - Harm to children, including sexual abuse - Owning slaves or profiting from slavery - Reprehensible uses of mind-control magic
