About the adventure

Blades in the Dark is a tabletop role-playing game about a crew of daring scoundrels seeking their fortunes on the haunted streets of an industrial-fantasy city. There are heists, chases, occult mysteries, dangerous bargains, bloody skirmishes, and, above all, riches to be had — if you’re bold enough to seize them. You and your fledgling crew must thrive amidst the threats of rival gangs, powerful noble families, vengeful ghosts, the Bluecoats of the city watch, and the siren song of your scoundrel’s own vices. Will you rise to power in the criminal underworld? What are you willing to do to get to the top? I'll largely be running the game as the book recommends, which means this is a sandbox world largely driven by the players, here's a link to the game's website: https://bladesinthedark.com/ This work is based on Blades in the Dark (found at http://www.bladesinthedark.com/), product of One Seven Design, developed and authored by John Harper, and licensed for our use under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/).

About me

He/Him-20 Decently Experienced with a few long campaigns (+20 sessions) under my belt. I'm largely most interested in problem solving/roleplaying, and often like to use novel mechanics (like board games) to create scenarios. I have my own custom world set around the 1800's, that's been filled with all sorts of tibbits and stories I've also been working on my own ttrpg system, it's a rules light, card based system that focuses primarily on making use of, editing, and creating new cards. I'm still working on it though, once it's ready I'll add the "how to play" to this profile and if people are interested we can try playing it Also I really like board games lol Worldbuilding: One of the first lessons taught to children, right when they are able to understand the words of their parents, is when the time comes, when it is time to die, they should let go. Up to that point they should fight with all their might of course, but once death grasps your soul you shouldn't hold on, just let your body turn to snow as your soul drifts away While growing up it's not too uncommon to see those touched by death. Each wound is different, one the flaking remains of what used to be an arm, another a black hole burred into their chest, which puffs out fumes of ash with every breath. Perhaps it was heroism or pure greed that made them hold onto life, but in the end all the remains is that dead look in their eyes, their soul long burned away. (Also, burned soul ash is used for gunpowder :D)

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll create them largely during session 1, I'd encourage reading through some of the rules beforehand, but other then that it's completely fine to show up unprepared Generally just going to do it by the book, let me know if you have any other questions

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Play will be done through Roll20 and my own discord server, other then that feel free to do whatever you'd like

What Martin Viles brings to the table

For this game this is largely going to be whatever you wish it to be, Blades in the Dark just gives the players a lot of options, and I plan on letting all of you decide how you want to direct the story. First and for most, as a DM, if there is something you want or need from this game, tell me and I'll do my best to work with you Beyond that I am very much a story first DM, much of my prep work is building up whatever space your character needs for their story, I am more then happy to create homebrew or anything else for this game, just tell me where the narrative track needs to be laid and I'll handle it for you If you want more information about me as a DM I'd recommend checking out my profile, I wrote it all a lot better there lol

Safety

How Martin Viles creates a safe table

I'll create a document for people to give any lines for veils along with the Monte Cook Consent Checklist, beyond that my most common tool is simply breaking character and talking directly, please tell me if there's anything affecting you. I'll give options for X, N, and O cards (basically just a way to signal your uncomfortable) as well in case anyone wants to use them
