About the adventure
🏳🌈 LGBTQIA+ friendly! 👋 Beginners welcome! 🔎 Explore the long-forgotten ruins of an ancient civilization! 🧛 Face off against vampires and their cult of worshippers! 🛠️ Study archaic technology that has been buried for millennia! You were selected to be an astronomer's research assistant in anticipation of a rare celestial event, but those plans are disrupted when a column of shadow erupts from the sea and washes across the sky, dimming the sun and unleashing shadowy monsters. Your new job is to go to the source and stop the shadows from darkening the sky for good! Shades of Blood is a dungeon-delving adventure based in gothic and survival horror to create feelings of dread, unease, and terror. You will uncover mysteries of the past buried in the ancient ruins that have been overtaken by the cult of a vampire god, and learn that the shadows covering the sky were only a test! An ancient vampire wants to plunge the world into unending dusk so they can reunite with their eternal love. Will you let them break the world, or will you stop them and let the sun continue to shine? 📖 Read the free Player's Guide for more information on the setting and character suggestions: https://downloads.paizo.com/ShadesOfBlood_PlayersGuide.pdf

About me
Well met, adventurer! I'm Erika and I hope to be your GM! I've been playing TTRPGs since 2015 and GMing since 2016. I know how to quickly adapt to anyone's style of play to make the game fun and enjoyable for everyone, having run games for hundreds of unique players from all walks of life—from home games to conventions to organized play. I love being able to facilitate exploration of the world and character growth of the PCs at my table. Whether you're a character-driven storyteller or a combat strategist, I will create an environment where you will thrive. My tables are safe spaces. Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated.

Creating your character
Characters will be created at level 1 using Common options. Uncommon and Rare options may be approved on a case-by-case basis. We will use the Gradual Ability Boosts and Free Archetype variant rules, but those don't become relevant until level 2. The Free Archetype will be limited to a shortlist of approved options. Characters may be made in advance using any character builder you like (I recommend Pathbuilder). Character sheets will be created in Foundry, reviewed, and finalized during Session 0. Please refer to the free Player's Guide (linked above) to learn the most suitable character options to fit the theme and premise for this adventure. The Rare backgrounds in the Player's Guide are all approved (and encouraged!)
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need: - A good internet connection - A microphone (headset preferred) - Discord (Free, app or browser) - A laptop or desktop computer capable of running Foundry. You can test out Foundry on their demo site here: https://demo.foundryvtt.com/join Foundry also has a Lightweight Client that you can install which may be less taxing on your computer than running Foundry through your web browser. Using the Lightweight Client is not required—just another option at your disposal. It can be downloaded here: https://foundry.ruleplaying.com/flc
What Erika brings to the table
I create immersive environments using ambient sounds and lighting effects on the VTT map. Combats are dynamic with the help of epic battle music and animated effects for spells and more. Automations built into Foundry help combats flow smoothly. I primarily stick to Rules as Written, but I may deviate if presented with a really good reason. My professional background is in education, and I call on those skills frequently to help new players learn the system and tools that I love. I also have a background in theatre, so I'm able to effectively convey a wide range of emotions and affects with just my own voice.
Homebrew rules
When rolling a hero point, if the new result is the same as the original, you may keep rolling until you get a new result. You may "call your shot" to use a hero point on a secret check. For example, "If I critically fail that Stealth roll, I will use a hero point." If a hero point is expended in this way, I will reroll for you privately, then let you know that your hero point has been used once we've moved on from the event.

How Erika creates a safe table
Bigotry is strictly prohibited from my games, in or out of character. This includes, but is not limited to, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and intentionally misgendering another. Any instances of bigotry is grounds for immediate dismissal. Each player will have their own private channel on the Discord server that is only accessible by themselves and me in case any private discussions need to be had. I am also available to talk over voice or video chat upon request. Each player will be required to complete an anonymous Lines and Veils form before beginning, which can be added to at any time. I have a module installed in Foundry that allows players to anonymously raise X, N, and O cards to signal one's level of discomfort with a scene when a potentially triggering scene happens during the game.
