About the adventure
This is the island continent of Shocastte, a landmass that sits in the middle of many naval trade routes, making it a melting pot of different cultures, environments, and the source of a lot of conflict between different factions. Powerful Monsters rule the land, preventing telephone lines and manufacturing from stretching between different cities, keeping these new technologies limited in scope. Worse, mysterious invaders with horns on their helmets and wielding high-tech weapons have been appearing, abducting and destroying cities in search of the seven sanctuary guardians, while the authorities remain too caught up in their own squabbles to form a proper response. The Coalition for the Equitable Growth and Gains of Shocastte, or the EGGS, is trying to push forward a massive effort to try and overhaul the land's infrastructure, putting together funds for a massive public works project, bringing trains to all the major cities and attempting to improve the connectedness and quality of life on the continent. Most of the power is not in their hands, however, with 4 other major players being the dominant forces: The superhuman and authoritarian Militia, volunteering to establish order through force and hunting down monsters at any cost, the ever-numerous and ever-flashy Buster's Gang, street punks valuing their own freedom above all and the eternal rivals of The Militia, and the Horned Army, technologically advanced invaders from another land. Of course, the biggest consideration is the constant threat of Monsters, creatures who exceed what their physical biology should allow, with some being faster, stronger, and smarter than any human could hope to be. This world is most heavily inspired by Mother 3 and Earthbound, followed by games like Deltarune, Look Outside, and LISA, as well as some Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece.

About me
Hi! I'm Teddy, also known as Granola. I love statistics and worldbuilding a lot, I both GM and play as much as I can, and want to make my setting feel as lived in as possible. I've always loved video game RPGs, but the freedom and connection offered by TTRPGs is something special.

Creating your character
All of your ability modifiers start at -2, and you have 17 points to distribute between them, each increasing your modifier by 1 to a max of +3 (for a score of 16 in that stat). I have a relatively open homebrew policy, but my favorite homebrew classes, spells, and feats are all included in this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/18m2_Dx9GBCOXQQrsPHeCA8j81hSeC-lWNRqtW1kAHug/edit?usp=sharing For race/species, you don't get any boosts to your ability scores from your species. If you would like, instead of using the mechanics of any species, you may alternatively gain a feat, proficiency in one skill of your choice, and advantage in another skill of your choice. This is only mechanical, though, you can be whatever anthro furry or sentient fungus you want. For equipment, you start with $100, and any mundane weapons or armor you would like. I don't track encumbrance. I use this character sheet, but any sheet is fine if you know what your character can do. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SSJLBCb9HJNia9crIaE0uvMP5I6wGByc-5Tm9U6iZcg/edit?usp=sharing It is mostly a kitchen sink setting, so ill likely allow most concepts you'd wanna play. But, I would appreciate if you would establish your character in the world a little bit more. If you need any clarification on one of the major factions, or regions, or parts of the world, don't hesitate to ask me directly! Or, if you have a piece of lore you'd like to add on to the setting, that's okay too. You can ask any questions you want either during session 0 or in DMs. For a large expansion on a lot of the lore and locations of the setting, you can check out this document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DVuWEq9-hBIOqgXa2Z53h7yZ_DaS0yj3-8Te9Gszrfs/edit?usp=sharing

What HugeGranolaBar brings to the table
I draw custom pixel art for most characters in the campaign, which is covered in the game session fee. If you can provide references, thats great, but i can work just as well from a written description, and work with you over a voice call for a design you're happy with. The most important thing to me as both a player and a GM is making the world feel lived in and allowing the player characters to interact with it in a grounded way. I won't change the logic of how and why events happen on the fly, and characters will only treat you with their own emotions and knowledge. I like to run a difficult game. This is not a power fantasy, but not attempting to be brutal, either, I don't want you to feel helpless, only challenged. You are normal people living in an extraordinary world, you aren't better than the other people living here, but can have an effect if you just try. Expect a lot of dungeons, full adventuring days that force you to use everything you have at your disposal and consider what you want to do carefully. But, I do also like a healthy amount of roleplay. Plenty of time and interesting scenarios will be given to flesh out characters and let them shine. A discord server and owlbear link will be provided to participants.
Homebrew rules
All house rules will be discussed in session 0, if they are not agreed upon, they will be changed. Movement is restricted to 4 directions, instead of 8, to make navigating battlemaps more important. However, dashing or using an object only takes 1 attack, instead of a full action, and disengaging only costs movement speed on your turn. I won't track encumbrance, but characters can only carry a max of 3 consumables at a time (bombs, potions, or scrolls are consumables, but not ladders or rope.) When a character goes down, their negative HP will be tracked instead of death saving throws. Getting hit while down deals damage as normal and brings you closer to death, and getting back to 0 HP lets you get back up. Initiative is only rolled by 1 character against 1 enemy to determine which of them goes first. From there, each turn simply alternates between a player character and an enemy, each player volunteering for their turn until everyone has had one.
