About the adventure

The Red Hand is a marching horde of ten thousand bloodthirsty hobgoblins led by fanatical warlords and backed by the terrifying might of chromatic dragons. They have one goal: to burn, conquer, and to sacrifice the Elsir vale in the name of Tiamat, the Queen of Evil Dragons. The local militias are easily fractured, a dozen of small towns are defenseless, and time is rapidly running out. This threat did not come about from nowhere, however. A secret society has worked in the shadows to arm the hobgoblin army. Should Elsir Vale survive, an investigation must follow the leads towards the unsuspecting lands of Nentir Vale. The Dragon Queen, from within her prison in the first layer of the Nine Hells, has her own plans and powerful allies in the outer planes of existence. Should any of these schemes come to fruition, the Mother of Dragons will not only break free, but also become a threat to all existence. This is a high-stakes, military-fantasy campaign designed for players who love meaningful choices, tactical combat, and cinematic heroism. Your motely crew of adventurers will face an epic journey to become an elite force that will end up challenging the Gods themselves. Lord of the Rings meets Mass Effect. High fantasy, desperate odds, and heroic action. Will you answer the call of Adventure? The core adventures we'll be playing in this campaign are: - The Delian Tomb (Lv 0 to 1) - The Red Hand of Doom (Lv 1 to 11) - Tyranny of Dragons: Hoard of the Dragon Queen (Lv 11 to 15) - Tyranny of Dragons: Rise of Tiamat (Lv 16 to 21) - The Scales of War (Lv 21 to 30)

About me

I am South American from Brazil, I've worked as an English - Brazilian Portuguese translator for 8 years, but TTRPGs are a big part of my identity since I was 9 years old. So now I'm working with something that I love as a professional DM. I am very passionate about creating awesome stories together with my players and seeing them change the world with their deeds. I am super excited about this career as I get to spend all my time working on my campaigns without feeling guilty about it

Character creation

Creating your character

Every epic legend has to start somewhere, and yours begins in the quiet hamlet of Dauth. You aren't hardened heroes just yet; instead, you are hopeful adventurers-in-training under the mentorship of the renowned Six Blades adventuring group. The opening adventure, "The Rhestilorian Tomb," is where you will take your very first steps as level 0 characters. Braving your first real dungeon crawl will form the unbreakable bonds that will be tested by fire in the months to come. The main method to build characters is the 4E Character Builder which will be provided by Discord. The overall goal is making sure you feel confident and excited about your character before we dive into the adventure. Characters will be created before a session, either independently or with one-on-one support via Discord text chat or voice. For ability scores, characters will use the 4d6 drop lowest method, or standard 4E point-buy (if results are lower). The main sources are the Player’s Handbooks and Class Rulebooks, but all official 4E material is fair game on case-by-case basis; no external homebrew allowed. Additionally, there will be minor adjustments with DM rulings, and house rules introduced occasionally.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before we begin, here’s what you’ll need to get set up: - Create a free account on Discord: Discord will be used for voice chat and session coordination. An invite link to the game’s private server is automatically shared once you sign up. - Make an account on the virtual tabletop (VTT): We’ll be using Roll20 for maps, tokens, and dice rolls. You can find the links to join the game room on the server Discord. - Character creation tools: an offline version of the official 4E Character Builder will be provided, and PDF sheets will be stored on a Google Drive folder. The character will be reviewed before play. - Bring your curiosity and questions: no prior experience with 4E is needed, I can guide you through everything you need to know. - Read the Rules: Players are asked to read their character information before play, and the 4E Rules Compendium as the game continues. This includes players who played 4E before.

What Carlos C. Cox brings to the table

As DM, I’ll guide you through the legendary 4E edition of Dungeons & Dragons in the full glory of its first complete campaign. You will experience - A full campaign arc from level 0 to 30 going through the first published 4E Heroic, Paragon, and Epic adventure series - Beginner-friendly onboarding, including character creation help and rules explanations. - Immersive storytelling with descriptions, character voices, and a living world that reacts to your choices. - Tactical combat that rewards teamwork, creativity, and smart positioning—perfect for players who enjoy strategy. - Flexible rulings that balance the spirit of the rules with the Rule of Cool, where fun and story always come first. - A welcoming, inclusive space where questions are encouraged and everyone has a chance to shine. - Ambient music and visual aids are used to enhance immersion, and I’m always happy to adapt to your play style. The point is not to rush the experience, but keep steady pacing. If the group ends up enjoying a faster or slower pace, that's fine too.

Homebrew rules

The game will primarily follow standard rules which includes DM fiat, with occasional tweaks and adjustments. Either way, DM ruling is primary and final, as normal. Unhealthy discourse and abrasive disagreement is not welcome. Players are asked to only share opinions and rule interpretations with the DM. No micromanaging or backseat driving the characters of other players. Let's keep the game fun for everybody!

Safety

How Carlos C. Cox creates a safe table

- The Lines and Veils document and the Safety and Consent form will be used ahead of time as replacement for the "session 0" format, which tends to stunt games and doesn't account for players who join later anyway. A quick conversation at the beginning of the game will still be held. - The 1st session for a player is always a sort of "audition" to see if they are a good fit for the group and the campaign. - X, N, & O's can be whispered through the VTT to ensure privacy and responsiveness. - "Pause for a minute", "Can we Rewind?" or "How about a Fast Forward?" can also be suggested at anytime privately. - Everyone can take a step back at anytime if they feel the need, without fear of discussion or judgement by others at the table. - Players may be asked to recall their favorite moments after a session. - A "comments and suggestions" form will be made available after each month to record wishes players may have for the game.
